So, I got to thinkin' tonight (yes it hurt) about what the farthest I have packed an animal out on my back...and it's gotta be about 2 1/2 miles and it was an elk. Had to make 3 trips with 2 of us to get it all out to the truck. Makes for a looooong day.
How about the rest of you?

I shoot a moose 5 miles back once, Carried it to a stream about 100 yards away and canoed it up stream the rest of the way out. What was I thinking shooting that thing way back there? Carried another moose for a couple miles, 4 guys and a 1/4 each. I gave that sort of thing up quite awhile ago but I know if I saw a trophy animal way back he would be going down and I would be packing once again.

I helped pack out a bighorn ram and it was a five mile pack out.Actually it was more like twenty. My bud shot him at last light and we had to leave him over night.Next morning it was five in and five out to pack the meat and a second trip for cape and horns.Makes me tired just thinking about it.
I don't shoot moose or elk in canyons or blowdowns any more either,I'm too old for the chit!!

I have been pretty lucky furthest for me is only about a mile or so... And that's just deer anything big I have been able too drive too within a 200 yards... One thing I can say for sure is once you fling the arrow or fire the gun and the critter is down the fun is over and the work starts.. :haha:

13 miles and two days, I camped overnight coming back out and knew before I left for the trip how far i`d be going in. longest pack I ever had because I didn`t keep track of my distance in was probably 3 to 4 miles.

Packed out 1/2 a Caribou five miles (give or take) over some very rugged terrain. The hunt was in northern Quebec, south of Ungava Bay with Cargair LTD. On the same trip helped a friend pack his two Caribou's out to a boat two miles away(give or take), took us most of the day. Lost twenty pounds on that hunt, but thats okay because Ive since found it all..... and then some!!!

I've never hunted outside of Eastern Ontario so you've generally never any further than 1/2 mile from a concession road. That said, one of our guys dropped a buck waaaaay back in the bush that we had to drag 1/2 mile through some really thick bush and cross a beaver dam to get to where we could cut a path in for the ATV. The beer sure tasted good that night!
