More opportunities to buy recreational hunting and fishing licences
Edmonton... Expanded online services and newly-available special licences mean Albertans and visitors to the province have more opportunities to buy recreational hunting and fishing licences.
As part of the next phase in rolling out online licence purchasing, starting Aug. 27, wildlife certificates, bird licences, pheasant licences and bowhunting permits will be available for online purchase. To access the online licensing system, go to www.mywildalberta.com (http://www.mywildalberta.com/) and click on the AlbertaRelm link.
As of Aug.10, online licence purchasing has been available for 14 weeks and more than 113,000 transactions have been made online. Development is underway to add additional hunting licences with tags for online purchase in October.
In addition, each year, there are a number of special hunting licences and special walleye licences left over after the draws. These undersubscribed special licences will be available for reservation by phone starting Sept. 3 at 8:15 a.m.
The licences will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Dec.19 will be the last day to reserve a licence.
To find out which licences are available, call 1-877-289-0999 toll-free, visit www.mywildalberta.com (http://www.mywildalberta.com/), or contact your Fish and Wildlife district office.
Undersubscribed special licences can be reserved by calling 1-900-451-3729 at $1.25 per minute. You must use a touch-tone phone. Cellphones, payphones and calling cards cannot access the 1-900 line. Callers are required to enter their Wildlife Identification Number, draw code, and their draw choice. Once reserved, the licence may be purchased at a licence issuer the next day.
All hunters and anglers are reminded to follow the regulations concerning the area they are hunting or fishing. Hunters and anglers are reminded to be conscientious toward landowners when asking permission for access to land.
