Anyone have anything weird or unusual happen to them over their years of hunting they would like to share .
Here`s one that happened to me:
Crazed Prairie Women
About 10 years ago I drove down to a big ranch in the Great Sand Hills to bow hunt antelope. Before entering the ranch I stopped to ask permission. The rancher at the time was throwing some kind of outdoor party and everybody seemed to be having a great time. I found the owner, obtained permission and continued on my way. The rest of the evening was spent scouting around before I finally decided to set up camp on a trail and get an early nights rest. The evening was warm and clear the long drive down had made me tired so I figured it would be easier to just throw the canvas tent into the back of the truck and sleep on top under the stars. I awoke about midnight not sure what had awakened me just that I knew it was something. I lay awake for awhile trying to figure out what it was, the night was gorgeous, the evening sounds were calming, I shrugged it off and once again drifted off to sleep. I awoke suddenly, this time I heard it, a weird sort of sound, that could be best described as a hysterical laughing noise in the distance. I remember thinking man the sound must really travel out here on the flat prairie. It sure sounds like a women possibly from that party at the ranchers house some two to three miles away who's got one hysterical laugh, probably drank to much booze or something. I once again started to drift off to sleep and again the giddy sounding laugh awoke me only this time it was much closer. The hair on the back of neck stood up as I thought, there’s no way a women would be wondering around out here in the middle of nowhere. I reached in through the sliding rear window of my truck and rummaged through my pack for the flashlight and placed it beside me. As I lay there trying to once again fall asleep the sound came again, this time it was no more than 100 yds away from the truck. I bolted upright and shone the flashlight into the darkness scanning the perimeter of the truck and was relieved when my light shone on an small buck ANTELOPE. As I was watching him in the light beam he again let out one of those calls confirming that indeed it was him who was making the noise and not some crazed women out stalking the prairies. Well that was it, my nerves were shot, I said to myself…. to heck with this…. and piled into the front through the sliding rear window locked the doors and finally got a decent sleep. I later told my buds about this and they all laughed figuring, I’m sure it was all made up. The next year I was redeemed when one of them heard the same call as he walked back to camp in the dark. We figure the antelope use this sound as a locator call during the night possibly using it more at some stage of the rut? I’ve asked a lot of people if they have heard this call and few have. Good thing I don’t have an active imagination…ya right!!!!
