View Full Version : Thinking of changing broadheads
Hello all;
I have been using 100 gr Muzzy 3 blades and I love them, no complaints. But, I have been reading a lot of great things about the Montec from g5 outdoors, it's a cut on contact, one piece head. Does anybody have any experience using these heads? I'd be really interested in hearing about it. Thanks alot,
Mike

Hey, this is grandma patty and I have ordered 2 sets of the banshee new broadhead, and they were suppose to be at my house last friday. So I will wait a little while longer and see if they come. I have always shot Muzzy 125 or 100, four blade and three blade. I like what they do if you do not have a good shot, and it still bust it's way through. Then I had a bow sight that I liked but I could not move the sight far enough to set the pins for the 100 broad head muzzy. So I went to the gator expandable from the rear and cut on contact. I may a super hole and great blood trail to follow. But I made a marginal hit on a deer and it did not penetrate the enough and I was not able to find it. So I am going to try and shoot this Banshee and see if it works. I will fine tune it and see if it flys good. I am also going to try some of my 100 muzzy's with my new bow and it they fly good they I will use them again. I really like the hole they make. Richard Aaron our local pro, and well known nationally. Is going to use a Nikon from New Archery Products. He used to use muzzy 100 % so I will see what he thinks after he shoot his first deer. We have alot of different seasons here in Missouri, and it one likes deer meat, they can shoot as many bonus deer as they want or to fill their freezer or freezers. I love hot sticks, and summer sausage, and deer burger's with Texas barbque.
Well, got to go ..............hunt hard, and stay hard,,,,,,,,,,,,,,oops.

Mike,
I asked basically the exact same question about a month ago. Go to the General Chit Chat Forum and look for the one titled G5 Montecs Anyone...? A couple folks responded VERY positively to my inquiry.
NOTE: My new 125 grain Montecs ironically arrived from Cabelas today, as a matter of fact. $45.00 US with the postage, shipping, and other "out of country" rape charges. However, no one around my parts selling them. Took about 8 days to arrive.
Be sure to visit the other forum...Chris has a great story about the penetration of these little bad boys. I took mine out of the package today and they are just downright nasty looking....cut myself just looking at them. Very impressive!!
Good luck finding the perfect braodhead....man, there are Soooooo many to choose from now. But I think these are as solid as any, and should last a few good years with re-sharpening.

:lol: This is grandmapatty and I received my new Banshee 100 grains broadheads, and I am also changing to the new st slims by easton, a carbon arrow. I now can say that they help my groups, but more especially they penetrate the target ( bear or deer 3-D ) alot deeper and that is what I like. So I put a Banshee on one st slim, and a 100 grain three blade muzzy on one. They both shot great, and I did not even have to change my bow sight for the muzzy until I got to 25 yds. and then I just held high, but I usually try for the lower 1/3 of the whitetail deer, so they usually duck and then I am not missing like I did when I first started. So the Banshee and the Muzzy both worked and my pins are not going to be moved. I love it.
Be careful with the Banshee, I forgot that I was shooting a broadhead let alone a Banshee 100, and when I pulled it out. I had my left hand on the bear target with the arrow between the index finger ( first ) and the middle finger with palm flat on target and pulled the arrow out. Well, I sliced three fingers with to fairly well, so I had to go into the house and clean them up really good ( I have type 2 diabetes ) , and went back out and finished shooting.
My main problem in shooting is I have gotten into the habit of not following through and wanting to take a peek at the target. Then I drop my bow arm and a the arrow drops. I do not have that problem with my other bow that has a zero effect muzzy dropaway rest on it. But my Browning ( used not new ), I have a wisker bisket on it, and it really shows when I do not follow through. Any suggestions on following through. My husband told me to try and use both eyes but I am way to old to open them both. He says it is like hitting a baseball or a golf ball or shooting a free throw, what the arrow all the way and see it hit the target.
He also told me to only shoot when I a fresh and not tired. Anymore, suggestions and I have a release which is really super but will it cause any shooting problems. Waiting for an answer.............GrandmaPatty 8) 8)
