The Shoot For Cause at Camp He Ho Ha has historically been a fun 3D family event in support of people with disabilities in Alberta, and that will never change.
However, I am contemplating adding another dimension to the 2008 event that will hopefully appeal to the more competitive archery crowd. It would be a Grand Prix shootout that would run Saturday night after the BBQ and prior to the poker tournament commencing. I am proposing an event titled sponsor to provide prize money in the neighborhood of $2500; enabling us to pay out the top 5 or 10 shooters depending on attendance......$1000 for 1st, $500 for 2nd, etc.
The reasoning behind the Grand Prix event? To attract a larger, more diverse archery crowd to a great fundraiser.
Let me know your thoughts and opinions......
Thank You

Greg
I have been thinking how geocaching (set waypoints) on a gps type course would be so very fun and exciting.....

The 2008 Shoot For Cause is being held May 3rd and 4th at Camp He Ho Ha on Lake Isle (1 hour West of Edmonton on Hwy 16).
The shoot information will be on the site by the end of November once sponsorship is secured.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to post your comments/feedback regarding the proposed Grand Prix event.
I would like to extend a BIG Thank You to the people at TRY KAM STRUCTURAL LTD. for becoming the title sponsor of the $2500 Grand Prix Shootout. I look forward to adding this exciting "test of metal" to our 2008 Shoot For Cause fundraiser.
How poetic would it be to have the final 2 archers battling it out for the $1000 first place envelope on a 62yd fox in the blinding wind and rain! :super_hap

here is an idea....
use red needle handicapping..... Howver many red needles are consumed the night before...is how many byes you get...
1-6 you get one bye
6-12 you get two byes
12-24 you get two byes and if you can it the right animal it counts as a 10......
24+ If you are able to draw your bow and hit a 3d target you are a hands down winner
and if in the consumption of the red needles the whole crowd gets to see the posterior of your anatomy in detail.... You are disqualified.....

I guess the shootout last weekend at the MOAS proves that you don't have to be a sponsored shooter to do well in the Grand Prix event. A couple well placed arrows at the right time and you find yourself shooting for a large piece of the "payout pie"!
Thanks to Phil McCaffrey for representing all of us "muckers and grinders"!
Great shooting Phil!!

If he keeps shooting like that he wont be a non-sponsored shooter for long.
Good job Phil.
