I was wondering when this forum was going to get started! :super_hap

Well,
I'm predominately a whitetail hunter and now that the summer activities are over, I'm heading out and starting to gear up.
Just called the property owner and he's given me the green light once again!
Going out to a local bow shop tonight to pick up a blind so I can take my boys out with me this year.
Also buying one more treestand so I have some options.
Good luck all and feel free to start your own threads!

Went out to The Bow Shop in Waterloo. I got a $ 70 gift certificate and wanted to get a blind so my boys could come hunting with me on the ground this fall.
They didn't have a lot of selection there. I was told that new regulations came out requiring these to be fireproof?
Anyways, the price was right so I got myself and Eastman Outfitters Carbon Pop-up Blind.

Looking forward to hunting with the boys!
Spent an hour on the archery range and was quite impressed with my 20 yard shooting considering I didn't do a lot of it the past while.
Practiced a few kneeling down shots too to get ready for the blind!

Went out yesterday and hung my first stand.
Picked a nice straight poplar tree and had a hell of a time putting on my Gorilla Chain On Stand. Ended up going home to get some cambuckle straps to hold it on the tree!
Really nice open area in the bush about half way between a road and another stand I have (about 100 metres in the bush). There's swampy cedars west of me and a dry ridge in the middle.
I plan to be there on opening day at first light, hoping to find some deer heading to bed!
Here's the stand from a couple of different prime shot areas.

Went back today and installed ratchet straps on the first stand and found out it was hard to get into. Installed a few more steps to get above the stand and trimmed back the bushes and finally am set up for opening day - October 1st here.
Then, back to last year's stand and installed it too (Man am I sore!).
The good news is the day I set up the first stand, the corn wasn't knocked down at all and now it's starting to come down. I've got tracks right where I shot last year's buck, so I'll be sitting here again the second time I go hunting. The first time, I'm still going to stand #1 above!

P.S. Sorry, no pics.....just not enough time

For months, I've been planning to get out on October 1st and be in my stand by first light hoping to catch some deer heading to bed.
Then, on September 30th at 7:00 pm, the wifey says to me, "I have physio at 6:00 am tomorrow....when are you going hunting?"
Someone had to look after the kids. :'(
Now, I didn't lose it, but did say "Be it known that now and forever forewith, hunting season starts 1/2 hour before sunrise and goes until 1/2 hour after sunset. You should never be have to told again!"
So, I made it out, finally, to my stand aroun 7:45 am and stayed until 2:30 with nothing seen at all.
Then I had to get down because I was head bobbing so bad, I was afraid I'd fall asleep in a tree and wake up the hard way.
After a short nap, I picked up my son and took him out with my new blind. The corn is certainly much less damaged than last year and the walking was tough, so we set up in another spot not where I was originally intending.
Nothing seen there either.
Unfortunately, that is all for now, but I am going moose hunting on October 12th for 10 days. When I come back, the wifey's going away for a weekend, so I won't be able to hunt again until November some time (with a bow that is).
See you all later!
Mike
