Anybody try them? What are your thoughts? Elk worthy? I like the cut on contact ability of the Sonics but are they tough enough? How about SlickTricks? A better head/choice?

I would go with the Slicktricks myself, Used them for 4 years and have not had a prob with them at all

I was not at all impressed with the durability of the Sonics. I would go with the Slick Tricks.

I like them. I missed a doe at short range and buried the free sonic I got halfway up the arrow shaft in the ground. The head's still in near perfect condition, other than it's not sharp enough to hunt with anymore. Out of the box they're the sharpest broadhead blades I've ever touched. Scary sharp. I also really like that the blades are so firmly locked into the ferrule.

I bought 6 of the Sonic Pro 100's. I wanted the extra width the Pro model offers. I'm only hunting whitetails with them so how it holds up on tougher game isn't an issue for me.

i picked some up off this site. I think wookie sent em to me? Anyway, they are scary sharp - sharper than my montecs or slick tricks out of the package. They seem to be built quite well, and the cut on contact design is nice.

I decided not to use them because the damn blades are so tiny and I found it nearly impossible to hold them at a consistant angle while resharpening. I went with montecs for this season, as they are much easier to sharpen - especially in the field if needed!

You got one of the out of tolerance heads that were accidentally shipped instead of being returned to the manufacturer. Everyone who got a defective one should have received another free replacement head a month or 2 after the initial one. I've got the letter from the president of American Broadhead Company at home explaining how it was a mailroom screwup and apologizing for it, along with a new head. I think someone posted a copy of the letter or news release here on Bowzone.

The proper head has all 3 blades meeting eactly at the middle with zero gap and you'd have a hard time wiggling them after hitting the broadhead with a sledgehammer. The Sonic Pro 100's are my preferance as they have a slightly larger cutting diameter.

AC......I would have to disagree......the Sonics are a good coyote broadhead, but that's where it ends!!

I shot the 100's last fall.......they were easy to tune and flew like darts. In my opinion the broadhead design does not promote bomb proof blade retention. The weak point of the broadhead is where the head necks down and the threads start.......passed through a target and stuck a tree....BENT. Spined a moose.......BENT. Whacked a sleaze bag and stuck in the ground.....BENT. One might argue that you would expect a broadhead to be bent after a tree or spine shot.......from experience I can tell you that should not be the case.

In my opinion there are many better choices like the Slick Tricks, Wasps, or even the Innerlocs. I have always been a Muzzy man, and for S$%s and giggles last year I tried another manufacturer........needless to say I am shooting the new Muzzy MX-3's this year and am getting what I expected......a true flying head that will hold up under tough conditions.

The sonics are an excellent head! I've killed a couple of moose and my friend has killed 2with them and they fly right with the field points. That's good considering my form! I've never had a problem with loose blades. I like them and would definitely recommend them. To each their own, I guess as I wouldn't use a slick trick again. I've seen the ferule collapse when a friend shot an elk in the shoulder. Yeah, I know, not the best of shot placements but you still want the head to stay together. You should just give them a try and fire 1 thru some 1" plywood and see how it holds up.
You can't go wrong with the G5 montecs either.

I got the giveaway heads ... I received 2 of them both were really good in my eyes .... I havent used em on big game ...but have hammered the hell outta tree rats with em .... never had a problem tuning em ....
If I recall right the ferrull actually screws onto the head to lock the blades ....

probally the only reason why i havent used em on big game is my current choice of Broadheads still work for me ... why change?
