I just don't like the looks of bow mounted quivers. There, I've said it and I'm glad!
Though I've used them for years on my compounds I just can't see putting one on my recurve.
I want to hear from you guys who use back quivers. What do you consider the pros and cons of going Robin Hood style?

If it is for 3d I don't see a problem, for hunting they would be noisy with the arrows banging together when you walk.

I only use hip quivers now.For hunting I like the neet archery hip quiver, and for targets I have herb Haines quivers. He makes them in New Brunswick.

Herb can also get the neet ones for you at a good price.

Yes sir! We did so. He makes an awesome product. All hand made and the quality of them speaks for themselves! Great stuff and a great guy to deal with.

I use both types of Quivers, on my hunting longbow I use a Bow type quiver, on my 3D long bow I use a back quiver, the thing I have problems with is going through bush, the boe quiver is much nicer than the back quiver. I find my back quiver ( custom built by myself ) makes no noise and if the leather is soft will keep your arrows in place when you bend over. I myself like useing the bow quiver for both my Longbow and my compound, but one has to make there own choice don't thay.

Newf,
i am a trad hunter so what i write is from that prespective .
you were mentioning Back quivers . i use one for hunting and a side quiver for all my other shooting from waundeing the yard humming arrows at targets to 3D to stump shooting .
when i am hunting back quiver is just some thing to carry arrows in as i figure you only have one shot . i carry up to 6 broadheads ,24 or 5 arrows with blunts or some i have some journeyman broadheads on that i got from Magnus (they are seconds ) so don't mind humming one at a bird in a tree and not finding . will carry a few "nutters" this year ( but they are another story .)
i am a big guy , not very tall but big around and when going through the pucker brush just pull up on strap and quiver drops behind my back .
only noise from my quiver is a russleing from the fletches . you will get noise from th quivers that are like a bucket , heavy leather and a stiff tube .the quivers i make are softer leather and lay flat to the back .

think i will make a solo stalker so i will have a second shot handy when i deer hunt this year

been a whaile since i have been into bow zone and when i saw Pete and Scott's plugs for my products i figure i should respond
Feather sale is still on for a bit longer (gateway feathers ).
if you have any questions about quivers drop me an email or post here and i will check in more often LOL ----- herb haines

 The physical weight of compound fits well with the use of a bow quiver. The use of a similar quiver on a light weight traditional bow ( specially in the high country) turns the bowhunter into an expensive weather vane.

I've finaly settled on using a hip quiver as a back quiver. :-) I put a strap on an old Martin hip and wear it on the "wrong" side (fletch sticks up over my left shoulder- right handed shooter). This way it acts kinda like a plains style quiver but the arrows are held in securely in their individual slots. No rattle, no slippage, no arm waving to get one out. It also slips nicely under the arm when pushing through bush or climbing under logs.

I made a singe arrow bow quiver so that one arrow is right handy. Once you pull the arrow off to shoot you never even know the quiver is there.

I use a Hip Quiver My self. Some like a bow Quiver to add weight to their Recurve or long bow cause some can be really Light.

I love back quivers, lots of room for lots of supplies esp. if I'm planning to walk in oine day in and out, I make my own out real nice soft leather that is quiet and comforttable against the body, never get used to a bow quiver

Have you considered a cat style quiver? They are a comprimise of the things I like about both a bow mounted quiver and a back style. Holds your arrows securely like a bow mounted quiver but out of the way. Great on a still hunt where the weight IS a big factor and there are fewer things to tangle up on brush. You trade-off the convenience of having the arrow right there but using a bow mounted quiver does still require movement and some fiddling to get the arrow to the right side of the bow. ...Another option to confuse the matter.

Tuffcity, great idea. Quivers are so subjective, I gave up years ago and bought one of each. I now sometimes carry one on the Bow with my Broadheads and a GFA with my stumpers.

I agree with Sunaj. I have a number of leather laces hanging on mine so I can tie stuff on- jacket, sweater, poncho, hatchet, lunch, small game, even the longbow. In brush you pull it under your arm and clamp down. Plus I like to carry a lot of ammo- broadheads, judos, flu-flus, field points, blunts, more broadheads. - lbg

Strictly hunting purposes? Where there is bush to go through or trees to go over/under, with a bow quiver, there is less chance of getting caught, and making that noise which will always be at a bad time. Drawing an arrow from a back quiver, with a broad head, will make noise no matter what the darn thing is lined with. Critters do not need much noise of a different kind to leave the area - or just stare directly where the noise came from. The movement needed to draw an arrow from the back quiver is excessive and cannot be hid easily - with the bow quiver extraction of an arrow and nocking is close to a single movement and not as easily detected.

I use a Bear recurve size bow quiver on my longbow when hunting. It is a bit wide but with an extra strap holds well while shooting and getting arrows.

That said I use a back quiver for most of my practice - I like the feel - and yes, that Robin Hood thing plays into it. I enjoy pushing the bottom of the quiver with my elbow and reaching over my shoulder to get an arrow.

Have any of you guys tried a solo stalker? I didn't like a bow mount on my compound but one on these seem like a good idea for my recurve coupled with either a back or side quiver. And if anyone knows how to make one I'd love to hear how.
