I have never hunted with a bow and would like to start but have a shoulder injury on my draw arm. Does anyone know what I could do, to get started, without reinjuring the shoulder. What draw weight is good for an effective kill for deer and moose?

my left shoulder has been popped out from kayaking. I found it hurt a bit when i started shooting. I suggest using a lighter bow maybe going for a 50# to start and slowly working your way up. I also found that proper shooting technique helped a lot.

Most jusidictions in North America require a minimum of 40# draw weight ... However that said some bows are more effieciant than others due to their Cam design .... I have no doubt that 40 pounds can effectivly harvest a deer .... but what I would suggest to you is find a local club and/or shop and go in find the Archery Guru ie: coach/Find a mentor ...and tell him/her your intentions of learning archery as well as your conserns with your shoulder etc. To properly draw a bow you actually use very little shoulder power ...its alot of back muscles ...or so I am told:wink: I do however that once you start shooting you will find it very hard to stop and you will discover muscles you never knew existed.

oh and One more thing ....
