Wookies Itch problem got me thinking (see this thread HERE!!!! (http://forum.bowzone.ca/showthread.php?t=6237)
about all the outdoor 3D courses I have been on. Now I am wondering about everyone else ...what is your personal favorite course that you have ever shot and why.

for example one of my favorite courses that I have ever shot has got to be the Medicine Hat outdoor shoot in Cypress hills. the reason being is when I wake up and crawl outta my abode and look across the feild I normally see Elk ... I do beleive I have heard a turkey or two there as well. also the shots are very challanging and a variety of scenarios ...from open plains to closed in trees ...up and down.

The 2006 National course in Lethbridge was fantastic as well ...it showcased every southern Alberta scenario I could think of other than 90 mph winds from open river bottom to very treed river bottom to bald @$$ praire to humping up and down coulees.

My out right Favorite course however even tho I never shot it ...but I walked it (Doing the media thing)was the 2004 National course in Prince George ... maybe because I grew up in PG ...certainly showcased the area and the enviroment around here. The Club here put together some awesome shots ... Ya remember the cougar in the tree? ... the bear in camp? Not very realistic but the Raptor in the shadow made me think hard about how I would shoot that.

Tell Us about some of the great courses across the land ... I wanna live vicariously through you and shoot a course out in New Foundland, or where ever.

your right wookie the cypress shoot is great, its beautiful in that part of the country.I dont know if youve ever been to the west castle shoot in the south or not but that is by far the best shoot i have ever been to.the shoot was held at the base of the castle ski hill which is now loitered by a bunch of fancy condos, any who we used to shoot a elk as a walk up three arrow the first shot was about 85 yards and it got closer for your second and third arrows, but the shot i remember the most was a cougar back acrooss the creek in a tunnel of trees sittin on a log it was really cool.I dont even want to mention all of the booze that was consumed at that shoot,we even had a grizzly walk through camp one year, the shoot doesnt exist any more which is really too bad

One of my best memories of 3D was seeing Turkey's at the Eagle's Nest shoot back in 95 or 96. It was a great weekend. Also the first time I met a few of the diehards like Gary Higgins & Wendel Mills.

My first 3D ever was with a guy by the name of Dan David & his friend Frank - I couldn't have had a better pair of guys to introduce me to the sport. I had an awesome time shooting with them. That was at the Veteran fall shoot and it's the same place (not same year) where I earned a nickname that proved hard to shake. I was wearin' my new camo dud's a bit too close to the fire & a fella by the name of Floyd Vetter, said you know Russ you get much closer to that fire and you're gonna be on fire & runnin' through that bush. Then we'll have a flamin' Russ, no no, yer big enough to be a bear. Yeah a flaming bear running through trees. The name stuck like glue, next year @ Nationals in Calgary I was Flaming Bear to everyone. Thanks Floyd

I also remember going down to Taber on an August long weekend, first time I met Shane Olson & Cody Draper. Hotter than hades & the beer tasted mighty fine. Don't remember much after the shoot off, just that my wife was locked out of the camper LOL.

Drayton Valley has a some pretty good loops. A&B both make you hump to the top of the valley & back to the bottom again.

One of the comfy-est courses to shoot is Sherwood Parks at the range. All established trails, nice walking, good target combo's too. The skunks are pretty friendly too!

I never got to go to the westcastle shoot ...it got moved last year to just outside beaver mines ...or is that the Porkys shoot ... I dont recall ...it was may long weekend anyway ... I remember that shoot cause it was that same weekend when some Jackal (pronounced jacka$$) feed me some heroine like stubstance called Turkey hunting adreniline ... I am hooked on it now. Speaking of drinking consumables ... I recall one Lethbridge club shoot ..actually all of lethbridges' club shoots I vaugely recall whether it be the indoor Ironman or the outdoor south of Coalhurst .... something about a big brown cup and Captain morgan .... I am quiet certain that Wookie, Scooter, myself and and a few others consumed(or rented if you will) so much we got the grass drunk at one of the outdoors

Russ ... Yep Wendel and Gary sure are 2 of the diehards ...so is Dan ... all them folks from southern Alberta are great people and all of them have a cold beer waitin fer them around my campfire

One of the best shoots I remmber..... although it is fuzzy is in Fairview Alberta.... we shot in the sandhills and pines and it was a classic good ol boys redneck shoot..... First time I ever shot a bear in a Volkswagon..... these boys meade you scratch your head!...

First prize for top score was a beater car the club purchased and got running.....

if you shot a clean round..... then you won a quad.... Tough course... no using binos then......

Another good shoot I will always remember......Williams lake all the years i went there... Course has lots of variety..... water.... mountains... big trees... little trees..... gullies..... rocks.....awesome shoot..... for fun they had a giant goose in the water at about 200 yards and if you hit it you got 1/2 the pot..... nobody in any year hit it.... although I know i was close... they then gathered arrows with a canoe!.....Looked like a medieval battle...cool... And then with booze consumed an outfitter friend of mine kept us laughing demonstrating elk bull cow and calf calling that turned into something sick.... complete with sound effects!....

C Course (I think), the Coulee Course, at the 2006 Outdoor Nationals in Lethbridge was my favorite. Tons of hard uphill and downhill shots with way less than perfect footing, either extremely long or extremely close. That is my favorite course of all time so far. Tons of low scores came off that course.

Oh yeah courses - I know I've mentioned it before and so has Kevin. The Hlady course at Calgary '96 was a tough one.

Back in the day when that shoot was going on it was on our town's rodeo weekend. Pretty much the only one I had to work all summer too. Drayton's A & B courses are a bit of a hump if it's hot out, actually worse if it's raining. Slippery as snot on some of the hills, I used to wear my golf spikes so I had good traction.

our b side here in salmon arm was a real endurance course. for a few years you had to pull yourself up with a rope. we had a bedded sheep on a log that swung out making it a least 75 degrees .

I think I would have to say the first year of the Blowing Lakes shoot. Travis put alot of time into the layout of the courses, and some really interesting shots. The gator in the river bed, was one of my favourites. I am looking forward to seeing what he will come up with this year.

Lonewolf, Travis & Corey do put up a good course and I'm sure it's one of the tougher ones you've shot. I liked the setup too, some challenging shots combined with an easy walk.

I haven't been down to Eagles Nest since 96 or 97 but from what I remember of it, an absolutely beautiful course and the place that I seen my 1st wild turkeys.

Its got to be the camp He Ho Ha shoot. A 65 yard goose, 70 yard gopher and a bear cub 20 feet in the air are hard to be for fun.

Top 3 shoots.....

1. Camp HeHoHa, hands down the funnest, toughest, most worthwhile shoot out there. The only 'can't miss' shoot for me (and I missed 4 so far this year 'cuz of the boy's hockey). Greg puts on a good'un.

2. '06 Nationals in Lethbridge, tough course, particularily 'c' for critter loop. My duaghter won bronze that year.

3. Any of our shoots up in Grande Prairie. I think we've got a great course, and set up a great shoot. I particularily like our hunter shoot in August.
