The first game speices I ever harvested was a ruffled grouse when I was 12 years old. I shot it in the neck with a crude bow and arrow. I didn't have money for a real bow so I went to the woods and cut a small fir tree and bent it and tied a peice of twine on it. For an arrow, I cut the straightest stick I could find which was still pretty crooked. I notched the end for the string to fit and took the point off a dart and used that for my tip. I didn't have any fletching on it at all. As you can imagine it did not shoot all that well but I got to know it and could occassionally hit what I was aiming at. That crude old bow wasn't much but it provided me with hours of fun every time I picked it up. I dont know how I managed to hit the grouse in the neck but it never moved after the arrow hit it. I hunted for grouse for many days before I finally got one. That was the start off my hunting career . So lets hear your story! What was your first kill and what did you use for a weapon?

Yep, I am sure many of us had the "handmade" stick bows when we were young. My first kill came when I was 9 or 10 years old. My cousin and I were out walking in the bush near home and I was carrying my beloved Daisy Red Rider BB Gun. Well, we walked up and a ruffy at about 3 yards and I shot for its head and actually managed to hit it. Wounded it more than killed it and my cousin had to run up and grab it and finish it off. That was my first kill and the start of a lifelong passion.
