Hello Everyone,
I have just moved from the UK to Quebec Canada, I wanted to start hunting with a bow or crossbow. Can anyone tell me if i need a licence to posses and use such a weapon. If anyone can suggest how i get started hunting, that would alos be great. I have been trying to get solid info for 3 months now with now help and cannot find a way into the hunting community.
Many Thanks

I know here in BC you do not need a license to own or possess either. You will however need a hunting license to go hunting which would probabaly require you to take a hunter saftey course in order to get a license. I would lean to a bow and not a crossbow because there are rumors of them not being allowed the bow only seasons, but that is just a rumor that has been going for awhile.

Hi John. I'd start by finding an archery shop close by and go and ask all the questions you can. They'll help you get set up and you may even find someone to take you out hunting. If all alse fails move west and someone out here will get you going!!! You don't need a license to own a bow but I'm not sure about the crossbows. Most provinces don't allow crossbows in bow season so I'd stick with either a compound or a traditional bow. Good Luck!!

I'm fairly certain that since all bows operate at under 500 fps that you don't need a Possession and Aquitision License (PAL) to buy or possess one. Same rule applies to pellet or BB guns under 500 fps.
