Russ, it was near the north side Fas-Gas... I've been here 9 years now, and this is the first time I have heard of one in town... not many are seen this side of the river around here.

I have shot one that was in my cattle a few years back here north of chauvin. A buddy and I were at dilberry lake and had one come out to fish with us.........lol can the buddy run when scared........lol they are moving out this way all the time. It seems that the more forest fires there are the more we see running around here.

LOL that would have been funny to see.

that would be nice if they were around here it would be easier then running to the inlaws and trying to get one in a couple days off work. Are the fish cops letting then stay or are they getting them out of the area?I also heard the they dropped of 5 cougars around provost to help with the deer population. One was spot on the edge of town here last fall.

I've heard the transplant rumours a number of times and ASRD has always said that they have never done this. All of the animals you're seeing are from natural migration. That's how the elk got to be around Chauvin, southeast of Provost & the Neutral Hills. Seems to make sense that the Cougars & Bears would follow the Elk. One elk taken in the Neutral Hills 6 or 7 years ago was originally transplanted in Suffield the year before he was shot. That's nearly 200 miles to the south! There's cougars & bears all along the Battle River in Alberta and if you take the example of the Suffield elk then a bear near Chauvin isn't a big stretch. Heck, we've even had bear sightings in our part of the Ribstone Creek and that has hardly any trees at it's source NW of Coronation.

The elk can really move around, when you say suffield are talking at medicine hat?My parents live a hour south west of moose jaw and there isn't a tree around there any were. But we have for some reason a heard of elk on the land a few years ago and I would say the closest elk might be from cypress hills which is 3 hours west. The farm is about 1 hour north of the us border and people said they have seen cougars in the area too when there has been forest fires down in the states. They seem to follow the river up.

A number of years ago elk were transplanted to the British Block and have wreaked havoc with most of the landowners because the elk seemed to know that the BB isn't as good as free range on the fringe... we've seen all along the red deer river in MWU 151 from Jenner to Bindloss and even up as high as WMU 208 around Delburne and the Tolman Bridge!
