While I was hunting this year, I hunted the same herd of deer throughout the season. I feel as though I babysat those things more than thier mothers babysat them when they were born. The group held 9 bucks. As we know, I shot one during the season. This left 8 bucks that I have been watching since the season ended. Over the last 2 days I have managed to pick up 7 complete sets, and 1 half set of these 8 bucks. Ive gotta say, it is pretty damn cool to have the horns off of every buck in the herd I hunted this year.
The half set I am missing however is off of the buck that I will be dreaming about for the next 2 years. This was only this deer's second antler growing season, and his right side measured 71" and some change. Figure in a 22 inch inside spread (which is on the low side as this guys horns almost lay out flat) and you are dealing with a deer that is measuring approx. 165" and it is still a baby! He already has 4 3/4" bases and 3 3/4 inch brow tines! In 2 years time this thing is going to be an absolute gagger. Im excited about the wide one next year, but the thought of that other one in 2 years time is enough to drive me half crazy.
