Hey guys, I hunted back east most of my life and didn't worry to much about leaving a moose or deer in the woods over night and getting it out the next day. There are coyotes there but the gut pile would usually keep them happy for the night and if it was a deer I would cover it with old logs and brush and they never bothered it. Here in Alberta I am a little concerned about the wolves and the grizzleys. What do you guys do if you get something late in the day. Any ideas how to keep the game safe for the night or should I just plan on a long night to get it out before something gets it.

You can do a couple of things sir...What I would do in this situation is this...

1. Gut your animal.
2. Skin and 1/4 it.
3. De-bone meat and leave bones away from the tree....(decoy :) )
3. Take bags and rope and hang it in a tree...preferably 20 ft up if you can.
4. Get out what you can that night and go back for the rest of it in the am....

I wouldn't leave the meat on the ground...

Several years ago, I ended up leaving a bull moose on the ground overnight. I draped my jacket over the carcass and nothing bothered it.

On deer size game I will try to get it out, either doing a bone out or get the whole thing out. Moose well I agree with Warden and Cdn archer on both there thoughts.

I wouldn't worry about cougars much they usually eat fresh kills they don't usually come back too a kill that they did the day B4... Bears yah pain in the ass... All I have done in the past is cover the body in branches and prickley crap and put my stinkey human smellin jacket over the head and never had any problems.....
