I went on bowjackson to check my KE. I have both alums and carbon arrow.. The game getters are 2117 @ 29" 220 fps and 56 ke.
The carbon are PSE 300 dm @ 29" 260 fps and 55 ke.
There is about 130-140 grains difference between the two. I know that the Carbons fly flatter, which is good for yardage shots, I know that the alums will retain ke better further out there. With about the same in ke, would it be better to stay with the carbons or go with the alums.. I will be using either arrow for big game with the ironhead 100's, Can I get some must wanted input on this? Thanx Dave :)

I would use the carbons over aluminium...for a couple of reasons..
1. They are more durable...If you get into some shintang and bump the arrows...the carbons won't bend or break...
2. The carbon arrows have better penetration because when they get wet with blood they become extremely slippery....
Even if you get a slightly lower KE (which yours is only 1 point lower) the added durability and penetration make me lean towards the carbons over the aluminum arrows :)

Thanx for the points Warden. The carbon are alot tougher then the aluminums. I like the fact that the pin settings on my sight work better with the carbons also. 20, 30,40,50,60. I just couldn't get the broadhead I was using to tune with the carbon, tried the new ironhead 100's from Rocky's broadheads and with the 1" cutting head, no problems so far.

Dave I agree with the Warden on most points.
The carbons are stronger and more durable.
And they are probably a little faster.
I am however a big fan of alum. for one reason and that is accuracy.
I compete with alum. and hunt with carbons but just because I had a dozen laying around. But if I had to buy new arrows for hunting this year they would have been alum.
They still don't make a carbon arrow that is as consitant as an alum.
But they are producing better and better carbons all the time.
I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Go back to bowjacksons calculator and base your decision on the projected KE/drop at 30 or 40 yards or more. The amount of KE diference isn't worth worrying about as it is virtualy the same.A couple FP/KE won't make a kill shot a wound shot at those numbers. The flater trajectory will make a big diference in range estimation though.
As for straightness the aluminums are straighter before they are shot.{LOL}
shoot them a few times and then check them out??
Pull them from a hard target and see if they are still as straight as when they were new.
I realy don't think anyone here shoots so perfectly that they can tell the diference in a few thousands of an inch over 28". We are realy talking about a measurement we can't see even when we spin our arrows.
Carbon is the way to go on compounds.Even with the traditional bows we are seeing carbons more and more.We are weighting them and getting better results than with aluminum and wood.
