Took the first trip this year and on the first day I saw 5 moose. 1 bear, and a few deer. but nothing in range or legal to take.On the second day we moved areas and took a nice bull moose in velvet at 8:pm after a short stalk.Gutting and Quarterning and packing till 3:am was enough so a short sleep was in order. At 7:am back to the task and 3 more trips to haul out the rest of the meat and the head.It seemed easier to pack the head than to cut off the velvet rack, but now I wonder about that??
Arrived home Sunday with the moose and began to look for a locker that would hang it for me.
The only ones I could find would only hang it if they could butcher it.$.52/pound!!!!
This is rediculous. No lockers will hang an animal for any price.
Not being one to quit, I tossed the sacks in a friends empty freezer and continued the search.Finaly a friend that I know offered his personal cooler to hang the Beast. For a while I thought that I would have to cut the moose without hanging it, but all is well now.
In the mean time we went back out to hunt for the rest of the week. The weather was hot and the bugs were bad.Finaly after not seeing anything for 3 days we came home, tired from walking and enthusiastic about the season that is just starting.

Just killing time and decided to update the thread a bit.
The elk won this year.Had oportunity at a 6x6 but not a good shot to take as to much stuf in the way.Rather not shoot than take a high risk shot.
Had others in range but to dark to shoot.
Next year is coming soon.
The deer are co-operating a bit, I took a buck a few weeks back and was able to complete the review on the slick tricks and spott-hogg "Real Deal " sight. They gave super performance. Also the same day my wife shot her first Bow deer. A big doe.Nice shot,at 40 yards and that allowed us to do updates on some other gear, Kodiak KO32. Sidewinder sight ,Winn Release and the Rocky premier 75 grain BH.
Last trip for Elk had me in over the knee snow and Snowshoes.[waist deep for warden]The Crescent moon # 17 were a treat to wear.No more walking like You just got off a horse!!!Put them on and go.[Thats another review that I need to update soon.]
Then rifle season opened and I was out of there, and into the bowzone with the longbow.
Looks like I will spend the rest of the season with the longbow. The Firehawk is such a delight to cary, 19 ounces. and it shoots great too.
Almost 1:PM so have to load up the truck and see what the evening will bring.
