Hey everyone! I know there's a ton of different people that use their quads/argos/terra-jets for recreation and for hunting. That's why we have started this forum on bowzone.ca!
So! Let's hear what you have!!
We purchased a 1995 Polaris Xplorer 400 to do a complete build up on for bowzone.ca here.
Here's my rig and quad.

That's what I will be running this year and probably next. We have some great sponsors on line which I will reveal when we get the build started, but they range from Tires to Quad Boxes and gun cases (wait till you guys see these..they are awesome!) to clutches and exhaust, hand warmers and much much more!
Can't wait till we get going on it..That's for sure!

Right on!! It's a good thing. Everyone I hunt with also have quads, kind of go hand in hand.

Great idea boys! I'm running a Honda foreman 400 1996. I like it but hate the tires that it came with. Warden those look like killer tires on your bike, what are they and how are they in the snow and mud. My next bike will be a new arctic cat or polaris.

Thats 2 strikes against you Warden; you drive Chev and you ride a Polaris! Just kidding, that a nice rig you got there. :D I don't have a quad anymore it got repossed by the R.C.M.P. :( turns out I had unknowingly bought a stolen quad. I will be looking to get another one this spring and will definatley be checking it out a litttle better before I buy one, in the meantime I have been using my brothers quad. Here's a pic.

This was after breaking 200 yards of trail after we got that snow in the first week of Nov.I put my chainsaw to good use that weekend. All the trails were in pretty bad shape from that snow.

Manfred,
What tires came on your "96 Fourman, my '98 came with Goodyear TT which were pretty good in the mud and snow, better than the tires that came stock on my son's 450ES. I put Kenda Bearclaws on mine in Sept. after I saw how they performed on a friend's '96 400. Since then, my son changed his to Gators and all I can say is "WOW!". The lugs on his Gator 12 inch tires are 39 which is think is in mm. Gator lugs on 11 inch are 28(mm). The 28 is quite similar to the Bearclaw 11 inch tires in lug size. The tread pattern is like a tractor tire, the bearclaw is similar, but the bars do not extend over center like the Gators. The Bearclaws do protect the wheel rim quite well. The Bearclaws are a little cheaper and as far as pushing snow up and down my driveway, they work quite well and I'm do not use chains. Next time around, I think that I will try the Gators.

I've got a 1999 Polaris Exporer 400. It gets worked pretty hard around here all summer and so far hasn't had much in the way of repair bills. Pretty reliable quad and I love the automatic in it.

Ishpah I'm running goodyear trackers. And i don't like them at all. The tread is bars that run from the outeide of the tire to the center alternating from side to side. The biggest problems are they spin out in the mud very easily and in the snow as soon as you get a little side ways on the slightest slope the machine just starts sliding like its on skates. I will look in to the tires that you have mentioned thanks alot.

Manford,
I checked the old tires and they are Goodyear Tracker ATT. I had 2000 miles on them and there is still good tread life left, I plan on using them on a home built quad trailer. I'm suprised that they gave you such grief, but I can see that when the lugs get worn down they would have that tendency. I think the Bearclaws will do that also.
Speaking of Bearclaws, I measured the height of the lugs and they measured approximately 1/2 inch which I'm not impressed with, I'm thinking that these will wear out rapidly.

Hey Manford...
The tires that I run are the itp589's. They are the BEST tire I have seen work yet. Very impressive. Running them is almost like cheating!! <grin>

Hey Bluenorther....How do you like all the closures in the Sundre area? You should really take a look at the AURS (http://www.aurs.org). They are the group that keeps fighting to keep all access open in the Ghost/Waiparous/McLean Creek Regions for Random Camping, OHV access and truck access in the Back Country. If you are concerned about the lack of access that you have left in the Bighorn area, you should give me a call at 403-813-7977.
