This thought was inspired by the thread Weim started about being victimized by someone that chose to personally remove his treestand from private land...

I have never used one. I just bought 2 used hanging stands, but have not had the time to find an adequate area to hang them....maybe next year.

I have a couple hangers and one climber....I really prefer hunting on the ground though. I seem to get the deer really close on the ground. The flip side though is it's really really hard to get a shot off on the ground without being seen or heard. I also feel way more comfortable shooting on the ground than elevated....I really should practice from up high more.

If I seen one and no one was there I wouldnt leave the area ... but I wouldnt use it either ...

I am not ver comfy in a tree stand ... I would much rather use a natural ground blind if I could find one .......

Mikey, you're kind of a bigger fella (no offense intended this time I swear lol).

I build custom stands on the side, once I get my welder back I'd be happy to build ya one you'll like. 36x36 platform, comfy backrest, removable rifle rests that slide into 2-8 different positions, bow hangers, arm rests, storage shelf under the seat, and anything else you could ever want in a stand. My stands change guys opinion on stand hunting lol. The seat on the big one is 36" wide, thats frickin comfy no matter how big a guys is, no little postage stamp to sit on lol.

I build them cheap because I like building them and I'm trying to make myself famous for my stands. I'm charging materials plus 100 bucks right now, comes out to about 150 bucks for a cadillac if you're interested (I'll cut ya a good deal though 'cuz we've known each other for quite a while).

While I'm talkin to ya, do you have any idea where my green chev ever ended up? I've got some money behind me now (finally) and I'd like to find it again.

I enjoy hunting out of a stand. The only advise I will give is lock them up if you're going to leave them behind.

I like hunting out of them. It's amazing how much game you see without spooking them. Although I like my two feet on the ground as well (my 250 lb arse wouldn't like that kind of fall), I tend to get impatient and end up still hunting (which means scaring up anything near me)! I think it's a great way to get a trophy in times of rut when you can call or rattle them in close. It just takes alot of effort to find a good spot and set it up I find. Mines still in my garage, only used it half a day so far this year but still looking for that perfect spot I guess.

I currently have 3 hang ons, 1 ladder & 4 climbing sticks so I must be getting ready to buy/build another hang-on treestand! This year I moved and shuffled my stands around enough times so far that I've sat in 7 different places. Saturday's probably going to be my last day of hunting and I'll probably be sitting in my 8th different stand location this year. If a stands not quite in the right spot or I find a spot that looks better I move. Amazing, considering 5 years ago I would set stands and never sit in them, thought spot & stalk was the 'only' way.

I own 2, I have been in it a couple of times, but personally I don't like them I find them boring, and I HATE heights, my dad however, loves em, uses them every year. I think they are great tools if you like it.

I couldn't imagine hunting without one anymore! The added visibility, getting away with a little more movement and maybe not being 100% scent free make it the best way to hunt on our land.

That being said, I shot my doe this year from a ground blind. I got down from my treestand because the wind was wrong and set up at eye level instead.

To each his own. Some people can't sit still for 5 minutes so treestands are pointless. For me, they're great!
