Hey there Alberta bear hunters , I am looking for someone to bear hunt with this year. I live in Calgary so I am looking to hook up with someone that lives in the areas where it is legal to bait. I need someone who can keep the baits supplied at least once every couple days. I will go help set up the baits and stands and put a camera on them but I wont be able to bait much because of the distance. I've skinned a few hundred as well so I can do the proper skinning for the particular mount you want and do what ever else I can to help out. I just need a little help with the baiting. If interested get back to me and we'll talk.

Pockets, for sure the bear huntings not to good around Calgary! Where I go depends on whether I bait or not, you have to get up to 320 near Sundrie before you can bait so living in cowtown and trying to keep baits going would be a real pain. There's only 8 wmu's in the 300's you can bait and nothing in the 400's, there's a bunch way up in the 500's. I am thinking of forgeting about baiting and just heading out and trying to spot one in old cuts or pipelines. I saw a nice one in 316 in late September and thats not to far to get to for a weekend hunt. A friend here in Calgary wants to head up to the Peace River area and do a float trip so I may do that.
Archer & Warden, where are you heading and are you baiting?
Pockets, do you have anyone to go with? If you dont let me know and maybe we can set something up.

Big pipelines are great for bears. In 324 we saw bears everytime we went up.when the first dandelions start popping up the bears are on em like flies on stink.
It's hard to do a spot and stalk, the spottings easy,it's the stalk that's hard. Some of the pipelines are over a 100 yards wide and the bears are wary.

Hey guys I'm out in Airdrie. Don't really have a clue when it comes to bear hunting. Would really like to learn and I work shift work so I'm pretty flexible. Never really done it before other than when I lived on Vancouver Island and we had a lot of problem bears that had to be taken care of.

BlueNorther, Swampdonkey was saying the pipelines were good spots also. He said they seed some of them with clover and the bears love it. I have only hunted bears in NB and you pretty much had to bait them if you wanted to see them. This hunting the pipelines sounds like it would be a more sporting way to hunt the bruins and I cant wait to give it a try. (Nothing againt the baiting guys , have done lots of it myself). Sounds like it might be a little tough getting up on them for a bow shot. I dont know how much time I will have to hunt them so I might carry a backup that will reach out a little futher if need be. The goal this spring is just to get a good one for a full mount so I may have to cheat a little on the first western bear. After that it will have to be a bowkill next.
All you bear huntin guys from Calgary and area, what do you think about getting together sometime this winter for a bearhunters breakfast or something? By the way, if I kill a bear this spring, would anyone like to have the meat?

Hello Swampdonkey
Yes we will have to get together this fall for a hunt :D I have hunted the birch hills area before but haven't been there for a few years. I usually hunt around Watino, and blue bridge area (both sides of the river). I should be lined up this year to get a moose and muley buck draw. Muley I will try for 523 as for moose i'm not sure yet if I will put in for 523 or 522.
What about you where are you putting in your draws this year?
Thats alot of traveling from Rainbow Lake to Wanham!
