I would like to get into the Hunting 3-D competitions, what is needed/legal/illegal? I have a hayt cam & 1/2, peep, loop, 5pin sight and trying to get a 10" stab(wondering if I can use a longer one?)

Also, how do I find out where the competitions are in my area? I live in Woodbridge, Ontario

Thank in advance,
Daniel

Hey Daniel,

Welcome to the Bowzone!!!

You already have all you need to start shooting 3D. Got to your local pro shop, there is usually lots of shoot posters, and start shooting.

As you start shooting you'll find out what you need to keep going.

And the most important thing is to have fun.

And again welcome.

Another suggestion: Contact the OAA (Ontario Archery Association). They may have a list of shoots. You can find contacts through the FCA website at www.fca.ca

Daniel, check out this site. It will tell you when all the shoots around Ontario are as well as clubs you can join.

Hey Daniel,

The OAA site is the way to go. www.oaa-archery.on.ca

There, you will find the list of shoots that are going on. Sadly, the season is over for this year unless you find a couple of clubs that have "frozen finger" shoots. Contact local clubs in your area (also listed on their site) and you may get guest access to one to check things out.

Finally, on the OAA site, there are rules and regulations regarding 3-D. Your equipment dictates what categories you can enter so you can pick your equipment based on the category you want to shoot.

Also, if you aren't serious about the competition and will not enter your score to win some of the prizes they generally have, then shoot whatever category you want and whatever distance you feel confident in.

I shoot 10, 20 and 30 yard pins and just shot a round a few weeks ago. Most targets were well beyond 30 yards. I did not really enjoy myself. I researched it when I got back and realized to stay under 30 yards, I should have just shot from a different category's stakes.

You're gonna love it!

Mike
