ok now no laughter. When does the rut usually happen for elk, and deer? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1st rut for elk is already over. You'll get a shorter 2nd rut here in a little bit.

Whitetail rut is about a month away.

depending on where in the world you are ...

weather conditions play a bit part in it .... the Warmer the year the rut will be pushed back a few weeks ... and the opposite if its an abnormally chilly year

Bowzone is dead on fer this year for pretty much western Canada

Typically the deer rut peaks between Nov 5-10th in Alberta but weather plays a huge factor in the deer rut - if they don't get their cool weather they just wait it out. Elk aren't so finicky that way, at least in my experience.
