I finaly connected with my first Elk last week.He is a 5x4 and a dandy in my mind.
I shot him with my 50#ACS CX longbow at 15 yards .He and a cow came in to my calls while I was sitting on a log.The cow was only 10 feet from me when I got the sight of the bull.I was at full draw on the cow and switched to the bull at the last minute.
After the shot the cow never flinched, and just walked 10 feet and stoped, then wandered to 15 yards to stop again.
The bull went 80 yards and piled up.

Good job Pete. I just got my first elk also, with my compound, but now I'm going after a white tail with my recurve.
Was it a pass through?
What kind of face paint do you use?
:)

I hit the jugler/spine .He turned as I released and it was to late to stop.LOL
got lucky.
The Bh stuck over an inch into solid bone.
For paint I use only the best.wallmart Halloween face paint.
A buck a tube after halloween is over.
I buy all I can get every year. washes easy, no smell and stays on and covers good.
It is better than the hunting stuff that costs a bundle.

Congrats on your first bull elk.
I will have to keep the face paint from walmart in mind this Halloween.

Congratulations!!!!!!! Great idea for the war paint. I usually use carbon based cammo as it really kills the scent....but I still like yours.

Great first elk you shot here, congratulations.
I can see the fun you had hunting and killing him. That is what hunting is all about, having fun and sharing stories, keep it up.
