We have a huntable herd of turkeys in the Porcupine hills south of Calgary.Too bad they only allow 50 permits a season for them.I see them every year when I camp down there.

They're still doing surveys here in Nova Scotia before they let some loose. They are supposed to bring some in for release in the spring if they sort out all the red tape before then. :?
They are doing a study now to figure out if turkeys will be affected by any diseases carried by "domestic" wild turkeys that have been released by well meaning folk.
It's been in the making for 3-4 years now and doesn't seem any closer to being a reality yet. It may still be years before we hear the gobble of a wild tom turkey in the spring.

I hope you guys get some flocks established in your provinces! We have lots in Ontario and man are they a blast to hunt with a bow! Very challenging but also very rewarding. Good Hunting, trkychsr.

:D up here in northern ontario we don't even have a season for turkeys wish we did though... I've been in the bush for 25 out of my 30 yrs and only seen two and they were bootin it so fast an f16 couldn't have caught them ..ruffed grouse are great to hunt with a bow imagine a target 15 to 20### heavier it would be nice if they would transplant them here

Bluenorther, are those turkeys in the pocupine hills on private or public land? I will be applying for turkey but dont really have a clue where to go if I was lucky enough to draw a tag. Any help would be appreciated. I suspect one would have to be pretty lucky to draw one of those tags. Sure would like to get out after those buggers again.
Heres a pic of a tom I took in New Hampshire with a Browning Patriot a few years back. They are tough to kill with a bow, I hit this one a little low and he got the arrow out of himself before I could run the 15 yards to him. He then flew 300 yards across a corn field and hid in a tractor rut where I had to give him another arrow to finish him. It was in December and he weight 18 pounds and was quite tastey.

That's a pretty good job on taking a turk with a bow!
I tried to do that when I was in MO. last year but couldn't get close enough.

The turkeys are in the south end of WMU 304 and all thru WMU 305.There's a narrow strip of forestry which runs thru the two zones going north to south. If you hunt in there you'll see turkeys.
