I need to tap the BowZone brain pool for some information on the rules of 3D. A friend of mine shoots with a Timberline No-Peep, and someone in Regina told him this weekend that they are not legal in sanctioned shoots if he is shooting MBR class. Is this true?

What would the reason be for this if it is true? Because he is using a sort of lens??

I don't see where he should be penalized for using it, my own opinion is that he is already penalizing himself using that instead of the regular peep. (Note the sour grapes, I tried using the No-peep on my hunting bow and I could not master it to the degree that I felt comfortable shooting at game. It seems like it should be a real good thing in theory, but in practice I sucked using it).

I would appreciate it if somebody who is up on the rules could let me know. He does not shoot many 3D tourneys, but he's a pretty good shot and if he ever headed to a big shoot he wants to avoid the embarrasment of being called for it at the shoot.

Thanks for any information you guys can provide.

Hey Griz,

I did a little research, and as far as I can tell the "No Peep", should be legal.

The wording of the rule is: Any sight that uses a scope or magnification will be placed in the open class.

Well the No Peep does use a lens, it is not a magnified sight. And it in no way magnify's the target. Key word being sight.

The peep does use a lens but, again it does not magnify the target.

Hope this helps.

What sniper said is correct. The no-peep is not a sight...therefore does not fall under the "sight" rule that he quoted above.

Actually Scotty, I believe it is considered a rear sight. The saving grace is that it does not magnify the target?

How is a verifier handled in a peep sight. It would be the same issue, because a peep is considered a rear sight.

Thanks guys, that's what I told him, but why believe a friend when you can trust a stranger?

Scott, are you still using no-peeps on your hunting rigs? I tried putting one on mine last spring and forced myself to use it and practice all of bear season, but I just can't get the accuracy that I can with even the large hunter peep. I would be afraid to stretch my shots past 20 yards with it. What's the secret? It really seems like a good idea, and I've seen some guys shoot really well with them, and it p***es me off when I try.

Thanks again
Rick

Well IMHO the only thing similar to a peep and the No Peep is the word peep. the No peep is an alignment device ...quite similar to what Terry Vickers (sp???) uses ...he uses a homemede vertion of a plate with a hole drilled in it and lines up a pin on the bottom of his sight to get his anchor point .... he shoots mbr does he not?

you dont look though the No Peep to align your pins(you do look thru a verifier) ...you look at it and align the spot and circle to get your anchor point

My opininion anyway .......should be allowed in MBR

Hey Rick.

There's really no secret other than practice. You see the alignment from your periferal vision and work from there. I kept my peep on the bow when I set everything up so as to have a point of reference (peep) when I sighted everything in and that worked for me.
