do you think with stricter gun legislation more people will take up bow hunting? I know for me it has been a great experience and i wouldnt give my bow up for anything... or did i open a can of worms lol

I think so. It's the reason I picked one up a few years ago. But it has come full circle,I have been toying with theidea of succumbing to the gun crap for birds. Then you know it will be for a .22 then 30-06, before you know it i'll be there again.LOL

Yeah, I think so.....

This is something that concerns me. I would like to see more bow only seasons here in BC. This is the reason I took up bowhunting was to extend my hunting time. Since then I have almost become obsessed with the sport of archery. What concerns me is that guys will buy bows and not practise with them or understand them and not make good shots or too long of shots and wound to many animals. Thus giving all bowhunters a bad name.

Redneck. So it does happen in Bc too,I was complaining about that in other forum and was accuse of scaring youngs from adhering to bow hunting.

I would like to know the reason why there isn't early and late seasons across the province. We went last Saturday out near Rock Creek and saw nobody else hunting which was very nice. I would hate to see a hunter behind every tree if they opened it up. hopefully we will see more LEH draws and open seasons for bowhunters.

Here in Quebec around my place there is no bowhunters any more,in 20 squares miles there is about 30 hunters while a few years back, they were 200 at least.Good for us not for the sport. No pro-shop are selling bows anymore.they recycle in crossbows and ml.There is about 10 tradhunters in the wood in the province. When we need trad equipment we have to buy it from west or the states.

I hunt with both bow and firearms.I just like to hunt the weapon makes no diff to me.

This year I hunted right up to and into Nov.with my bow and only took out the rifle to take advantage of the doe season and put a couple does in the larder.

I agree with cdn-redneck... I think that there are a lot of people who quickly pick up a bow and wing off a few shots and then head out into the woods!!! :x I also have become obsessed with the sport and have not hunted with my .308 for a very long time. I was out there, many a time standing in a tree stand or in a blind freeing my butt off this Nov. It was great to me, I love the sport and beleive that you get the real rewards from it through persistence, practice and just the love for hunting. Next year I better bag a buck :-D hahaha

I too am a gunner as well as a bow hunter. I love to hunt with both and got into bowhunting for all the extra hunting I could do with the bow. Cant wait til next fall to get going again, In the meantime I will be trying to get a wolf and a cougar and I will be using my rifle.

This is what I think of gun legislation :flipoff: :321: , the reason I took up bowhunting was to have more hunting opportunties and I enjoy bow hunting very much and I still do some rifle hunting.

Myself I am a bowhunter, since I don't have a gun licence yet. Yesterday while heading to my spot, I passed 3 guys out rabbit hunting with very LOUD guns. Needless to say, I sat in a very brisk cold December wind for 2 1/2 hours and waited for nothing to appear. Now I sit at work watching the beautiful snow fall, all because I took an extra shift. I should be in a treestand with my bow waiting for the nice deer to walk by. :(

thanks for the replies guys its great to see every1 thoughts. I enjoy hunting with my rifles or shotguns but i also enjoy the quietness i get to have hunting with my bow.. i have hunted birds with my bow its a challenge . ive yet to try rabbits since they are too fast but then again the bigger the challenge the better one becomes. im not one of those guys that bought a bow and went hunting with it i actually purchased a 2nd hand bow to practise and that i did at least 2 to 3 hours a day with my brother who got me addicted... i even put a stand up the back yard at the height i wanted to hunt from to make sure i could do it .it definatly takes alot of perfect practise to make sure you are @ the top of your game. thanx again every 1

I still hunt with both bow and rifle. It's a good thing too or I'd be eating tag soup all winter!!! [Does it count as hunting if you've never fired an arrow at an animal?]

I won't give up rifle hunting because I really enjoy the comeraderie at the hunt camp. Bow hunting is just another step that I've taken in my hunting career that my friends and family have not chosen. I also still learn a lot from rifle season that I apply to bow hunting.

Rifle season fills the freezer but bow season turns my crank. I get three full months (Oct 1-Dec 31) with my bow in Eastern Ontario with only a two week break for rifle season at the start of November.

I can't remember where I heard the quote (it likely was at this website):
"Bow hunting is like window shopping but with a rifle you're going out to make a purchase." (or something to that effect)

Been both into firearms archery and blackpowder but it seems like i usually grab the '54 trader or the bow. Ninety percent of the times I enjoy watching the wildlife more than harvesting it,but when the right animal comes along then we wil work on the harvest.
Just enjoy being there.

I hunt 3 sesons here in Manitoba. Bow, black powder, and rifle. Bow is my favorite followed by the black powder season. I hunt during rifle season because I have friends that hunt only with a rifle and I enjoy spending time with them but it isn't the same as bow season.
