Do you feel that the fps of steel shot gun sheel makes a diferance. I started useing shells that have a fps of 1550 or greater when hunting geese and ducks and find I get less cripples. I also found that shooting them in the a$$ when they are flying away drops them quicker. Anyone comments.

Steel shot was the worst thing the government could have done to Daffy. the range or the penetration is nuch different. More ducks are lost each year because of the less knockdown power of steel. Where lead may give you 5 to 7 pellets in a bird a good shot with steel may do three. This is based on two to three hundred ducks a season.

Last year I used some 3" No 2 shells that shot 1625fps and they seemed to do the trick. I was making alot more kill shots than cripples at longer distances. The only problem was after shooting a box and half in one night your arm would kill alot more smack power. Small price to pay for a good night of duck and goose hunting. As I said ealier I found it easer to kill a bird if I shot at it if it was flying away. Has anyone tried this and found a differance.

I do not want to have to buy or shoot 3in shells but that would shows the difference

The FPS to me is not really the issue at all. I just dont lead them at that rate of speed. Just point and shoot. I use remington Hevi shot because its density or smack down power is reportedly greater that lead. Having used it I have to agree. You hit it- its going down. Yes it is more expensive however I find the results worth it.
