well littlebones there are few good crossbow manufacturers out there, excalibur, ten point, horton.ten point has their titan se it is a little smaller than the rest of their line but when you go compact you sacrifice power.horton is coming up with a whole new line up for 2004 they make a great product.for simplicity the excalibur vixen ,exocet and exomag are non compound models that have as good and better performace spec than most crossbows.if your out in the bush and run your broadhead over your string, accidents do happen, you can change it in the field,do that with a compound and you need a bow press to fix.

Al I have another question for you. My buddy is thinking of getting a crossbow. He doesn't have as much time to put into shooting a compound bow, so he is thinking crossbow, he is looking at a Tenpoint that is rated at 395 fps. Is there a standard measurement for this like a IBO rating?

First of all..I would like to point out that what I am about to say is STRICTLY my opinion....everyone has to make their own educated decision...that being said...here i go
There are 3 good brands of crossbows on the market
Horton
Ten Point
Excalibur
ALL have their good points...for instance
Horton is most likely the least expensive
Ten Point the fastest
Excalibur the most accurate
Up to you...depends on what you want to hunt, where you want to hunt, and what... in your opinion, suits your needs the best
Thats my .02 worth
BTW...if you think making a decision on the brand of crossbow is tough...wait till you have to decide on the type of broadhead you want...lol
Good Luck
BTW...I have an Excalibur Exocet 200....I shoot 2" squares out to 50 yds...it also has enough power to take down almost all of North American Big Game animals...and..I live in Kitchener where Excalibur is made...soooo I am a little biased...lol
