Warden, I was just looking through your photos and I saw the white moose. Is this common in Alberta or is this a freak of nature? I have never seen or heard of a white moose. Wassup?

The moose in the picture was actually captured on film in Alaska and no they are not common. There is another one in Idaho this year but it has been protected from being shot by wildlife officials. I did see a strange one in Nordagg Alberta a few days ago that was all brown (no black to speak of), thought it was a huge elk at first glace except that it looked way to tall on the front end. I put the binoculars on it and it was a big cow moose, never seen an all brown one before. Anyone else see one?

Albino moose and other animals are as rare as albino humans. It doesn't happen very often in nature but when it does, it sure looks strange! What I don't know, and hopefully someone can answer this for me....Are albino moose, deer, elk or any other big game animals legal to harvest during hunting season?

I think the law on harvesting albino's may vary depending on the province or state but I think they are legal game in most places. The white moose in Idaho got alot of press and wildlife officals decided to protect it. As you can imagine after it being in the media what kind of an uproar it would cause if it was on the back of some hunters truck. Would I shoot a white animal? I'm not sure , I guess I wouldn't treat it any different than a normal one so if it had a good rack I probably would, not because of the color but because of the rack.

Wow, thats amazing. yeah I think the picture is the way better prize to have in that case. Our regs here don't say anything at all about albino's, but they have the kermode bear protected. It is a blue phase and white phase of the black bear. Not sure it's the same as an albino though.
