I know in the past I have been very disappointed with the hunting content in the three main Boat and Sportsmen Shows in Alberta. I was just wondering how many of us would like to see a Hunting and Fishing Expo or two in Alberta, say towards mid August.

You know, the Boat and Sportsman's Show is a boat show. That's it. The hunting shows from years gone by were great..I think we should look into spearheading it...perhaps....

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a great idea and Calgary should be the spot to hold one.

Never been to a Boat and Sportsmen show. But I can kind of see what Warden says being true; the industry would be trying to promote those "sports" that are more of an economic prospect (ie: boats, ATV's and other high ticket items) than those items that are of special interest.

Let's face it - not everyone can (has the desire to) pick up a rifle/bow and do what we all do. Because the 'general' population does not have the mindset to try something new where it's a big challenge (and we all know how much of a challenge Archery is), the recreation industry doesn't see it as a income-generating section that they should target.

On the other hand, a 'sportsmen/women' show that will promote and expose the wonderful outdoor activities such as Archery and Riflery (is that a word?) could be greatly beneficial to increasing local and even regional exposure. How many times have you seen a young person's face light up when handed a bow? Even my 4 yr old son lights up with glee when I let him trigger off an arrow. I had the chance to see a fully grown buddy get hyperactive on his first hunt 2 yrs ago. I don't even think I was that excited when I first started out.

CDN, great post. I would be very interested in helping out in any way possible. The only thing I question is the time of year to have it. You've suggested Mid-August. Wouldn't earlier in the year be a better choice, so that anything new purchased by the participants could be put through the test well in advance to taking it to the field?

Jim.

Jim,the piont about having it earlier in the year is extremely valid. This is an issue that Scott and I have talked about and I would like to see it taken to the next level. I will start gathering some info. Anyone that would like to help, please email me at trev@bowzone.ca

8) I was just curious as to what kind of motavaion you would offer to get the response from hunters you would like to enter your ,or this show?
It seems to be a fine line between rewading a hunter for their success and promoting hunting for the benifit of reward or profit
