If a movable sight puts you into the open compound class what other equipment should a well setup 3d bow carry, what power scope lens and other items should you have to be competetive or at least have a chance to be in the same game. I'm shooting an Ultra tec at present. Thanks

Tyee, shoot whatever makes you shoot the best. The one suggestion I have is to throw a pin sight on and shoot in MBR. Most of the shooters in MBR are just average joe and it is alot of fun shooting against others with near the same ability. Once you have a few under your belt, if you want to move to Open Class, go for it.

I know I didn't give you any equipment suggestions, but only because it is such a personal choice.

Tyee In My Opinion what you should do is hop into yer wagon with bow in hand ...drive about 1.5 hours east to Lethbridge pull up at "Archery Unlimited" ...See the old guy behind the Counter (Dennis)...dont let his age fool ya,he knows more than I ever hope to. Tell him what ya wanna do ... he let ya try some stuff and go from there.

I only realized after I my first competition was over that I was in the open class because I was using an adjustable sight. I thought to myself that since I was going to be in the open class that next time I had better put my scope on. Well that was a mistake. Have you ever looked a black bear 30 yrds away with a scope that has a black dot in the center of it?lol Live and learn. It was only my second 3-D and I did bring my score up from a 343 to a 363 but the scope didn't have much to do with it. In fact in some cases it hurt more then it helped. Our club has another 3-D coming up in may and this one is outdoors. I already have my cross hair apature back on in preperation for that one.
Like others said, shoot with what you are best with. Don't feel the need to change to keep up with the Jones like it did or it may back fire on you.
Cheers,
Trevor

Ouchhhhhhhhhh Trev!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of us lowly pin shooters (who have, on occasion, beaten the odd open guy) might take your comment as a cheap shot!! LOL!!!  Just kiddin'

I might clarify that the Trev I was speaking of is the big wookie that used to be on the Clearwater Pro Team!!

Hoagie, remember, I am still a "average joe" pin shooter too! Although I think I am gonna throw the scope on the Ultratec and shoot open class

Thanks for the replies, I guess I should have asked what equipment do you commonly see on a well setup open class 3-D bow ie. scope what power, are guys shooting dropaways ,extension bar sights, specific typical setups, arrows. I do realize that personal preference comes into play. Curious on how the guy's I would shoot against in the open class are armed. And thanks,I don't think you could refer any archer to a nicer guy than Denis or Jude. I bought my 2nd. Martin from him in '98 and met him in '94 I wanted to see the world from a larger view by asking the questions here knowing that shooters from all over read this forum. I have been shooting compound since 1984 and always hope to make a few outdoor shoots a year and if time allows I would like to do more. I usually use my movable sight and my best score has been around 385 but now I've got my Hoyt :o
