The Pros for a drop-away are obviously as you stated, they allow for a much more radical helical and larger fletches leading to better broadhead flight. The cons, as i see them are that you have to really keep on top of checking to make sure its coming up all the way. Not coming up to full height will obviously cause you to miss.
As far as choices out there right now there are a bunch of great quality drop-aways on the market. My personal choice right now is the Ripcord, i like the fact that the rest can be set to the upright position for stalking and will stay in place until you shoot, I have had mine for 2 years with no problems. The trophy takers are also a rock solid time tested and proven rest, over the past several years they have probably gone on more bows than any other single drop-away. If you remove the hard cable and replace it with string loop material, I also think the NAP quiktune 2000/4000 are pretty solid reliable rests with good wide prongs for consistent arrow capture. Of the ones out there that I have personally tried those would be my top three choices for hunting. Just look for one that is simple and rugged and you'll do fine!
Just my opinion

Thanks for the input guys with all the rests out there there is lot's to learn I bought an '04 Ultratec and have been leaning toward the QT 4000 with the hoyt spacer block setup, anyone have the regular 4000 with the longer arm does it ever move without the hoyt block setup. Which arm length on the shakey hunter would mount to the tec riser ???

The two top drop aways at the moment are the Muzzy Zero Effect and the Trophy Taker Shakey Hunter. I did a lot of searching on this topic for the last few months since I am setting up my newest addition with a drop away. The muzzy is a positive push away rest that has to drop but I just couldn't get over the bulkiness. I finally settled on the Trophy Taker Shakey Hunter. I put it on the bow and started shooting bullet holes in just a few minutes of setting up. I like the idea of a drop away because I like a helical fletch and I went from Aluminums to Carbons and then to an Aluminum/Carbon which has a smaller diameter and you just can't put much helical on it and get it through the rest. Actual I went with an offset instead. The biggest drawback that I have noticed is that they are noisier than traditional shoot through rest without some fore thought to launchers, launcher stops and drop plates. Lots of moleskin is a must. I will be keeping an eye on it during freezing rain type weather to see if it causes problems but I expect it to be problem free. I have another buddy that has shot one for the last 4 years (original) and has never had a problem.

I shoot big old 4" shield cut feathers on my carbons and the NAP dropaway have been functioning very well for me. No contact and great arrow flight.
