I pilfered this off another forum. Barry had posted this on December 30th. What a great animal! Congrats to the Wensels.
Wanted everyone to know the news hot off the press. Gene and I have been hunting a monster non-typical since Oct. 17th when I first saw him. We each got to see him a half dozen times; got him on video for almost an hour total and we both missed him once with deflections. I knew it was just a matter of time. Gene made good on his second chance and we got him this morning. Some people think I should be disappointed because I didn't tag him myself. But I couldn't be happier. I've always considered us a team and I could honestly care less who gets him. We've had a fantastic year. Both of us got 160 inch plus bucks earlier in November; I got a good 6x5 in Kansas a couple weeks ago, then we both got good bucks in Texas last week (in fact I got the very same buck everyone watched me miss on TV last year). Gene doesn't want to brag but I'll do it for him. I also want to thank all our friends who have supported us and given us their input and opinions in our pursuit of this fantastic critter. I don't know how to post pictures but you guys will need to sit down for this one. He's 25 inches inside spread and 30 inches outside spread with FOUR droptines. We haven't put a tape to him yet but we don't really care. And yes... if anyone wants to x-ray it they're welcome to it! We put a tremendous amount of concentrated effort into this buck. I'm proud to say it was totally legit, totally legal, and totally fair chase. Sharing this with everyone is half the fun. Best of luck and Happy New Year to all. Barry Wensel
