hey guys n gals, im thinking about making my own shafts but im wondering isit better to buy dowels for like 2 dollars or buy the premade shafts?? i was thinking about buying a long dowel maker, any advice??

If you want anything remotely close in spine and weight get pre-spined and weighed shafts. They will save you a lot of grief.

ok, but how hard would it be to spline it by hand?? im just looking to do alil tinkering for right now, try my hand at cresting arrows and such, but later on i will get som pro splined ones to have hard hitters

Spine, not slpine. Big diference.
If you have a spine tester it is easy.

ok my bad and no i do not have one, next purchase after a better fletching jig LOL, i got an arizona EZ-fletch carbon jig LOL

Spine testers are expensive to buy. Better look at making one. That fletcher will not do well with wood shafts either. You may getaway with 5/16 wood, but11/32 will be a problem.
With using dowels that are not already spined , expect to have a ton of scrap wood before you get a dozen arrows.

ok, yah my carbons are barely fitting it, its the 250 CX Heritage shafts, the inner diameter is 5/16 the od, i dunno
