View Full Version : Recommended ATA for 30" draw & thoughts on a few bows.
Hi all,
I'm switching from longbow to compound and since I haven't used a compound since my Browning Mirage 20 years ago I'm looking for advice on a good ATA for a 30" draw.
I like the solo cam, so I've narrowed it down to these three bows.
Bear Carnage ATA 32 (The new Bear Anarchy is ATA 35 and I'd consider it but it's untried)
Hoyt CRX 35 ATA 35
Mathews ez7 ATA 32
I'd appreciate your ideas on a recommendation regarding the ATA or bow.
Cheers

I'm shooting the Z7 Extreme this year, it is the shortest bow that I have ever owned!
I have found, that it is very unforgiving if you are not consistant with your form.
I enjoy the smooth draw and for the speed it is very quiet.
If you don't keep a solid anchor, it does seem to creep on you.
The set-up that I am shooting, 70lbs, 28" Maxima. 100gr tip, use's one pin from 14 to 30 yards with only a 3 1/2" difference in impact. But after 30 yards, it drops quite quickly, there is an average of 3mm. gap between the pins from 30 - 40 - 50 - 65yds. So if you plan on shooting it at longer ranges, In my experience at least, you will need to utilize a 5 pin sight.
Overall, I am happy with the Z7.

If you are going from longbow to compound, I assume you will be using a trigger release? If not, its best to go a longer ATA closer to 40 inches, such as a Hoyt with a 3000 limb. Otherwise 35 inch ATA is what I would go to with a release.
