Hey everyone. If you use calls to lure in a buck before the rutt, does it just scare them away or will they become interested? Also what if you use scent before the rutt will that still bring them in? Also, what is the furthest shot you would take for a deer? 30 Yards?

Hey Travis. No, it doesn't scare them away. What will scare the smaller bucks away is if you make your grunts sound like they are from a much bigger deer. It's so close to the rut here now...You should be fine with any of the lure scents or cover scents.

I've used grunts all year long. I've found in the very least they get deer that are visible to come in out of curiosity or stop long enough for a shot. Just got back from whitetail hunt and the rut is starting to kick in. Started noticing the scrapes were getting worked over about two days ago. We rattled and grunted in our bucks. Heard some bucks fighting pretty hard in the bush as well. Younger bucks were harassing the does. Get out there and have at it.
