So? What's the answer??

Allright we have found our area to hunt deer and a little late I am told. This is my first year bowhunting and from a tree stand. I have a couple of questions ? We are hunting along a river bottom.

1. Would you place your stand at the base of the ridge that heads up to fields ( feeding area)? or would you place your stand at the top of the ridge along a game trail.

2. How high would you place your stand, right now I have placed it so that it is approx 15' to the platform is this high enough.

I appreciate you help.

I personally would hunt the top of the ridge. The wind will be more consistent. I've been busted by swirling winds too often in a bottom area.

I find 15' a good height, unless you're in a telephone pole-like tree - then you need to be higher.

Good luck.

Dont place your stand where the deer are higher than you, and watch out for the prevailing winds. If your scent is blowing directly onto the top of the ridge you'll get busted.
I'd hunt the top of the ridge also, or at least have the stand high enough that deer cresting the ridge and descending it wont see or smell you.
