Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new to archery and new to this site completely. I was given a fairly old compound bow several years ago by a family member. I used it until I lost all my arrows, and then it kind of fell by the wayside. I'm now feeling the itch to use it again, and I want to make sure I'm treating it right.
The limbs of the bow are held on by two large screws. These screws are not in all the way, as I've been told they are for adjusting the draw weight. Essentially, my question is should these be tightened as far as they can go? I want to make sure prior to using it again.

Thanks in advance for any advice,

no they should not be tightened all the way in. For max draw weight, turn the limb bolts til they bottom DO NOT TIGHTEN! and then back off a 1/4 turn. "usually" the minimum draw weight is about 3-4 turns out from max. A bow's draw weight, as a "rule of thumb" will change 2-3 lbs per turn. As with all rules of thumb - this is only a guide, some change 2 lbs and some change 4 lbs.

Good luck and have fun!
