Hi everyone,
I would just like to say this is an awesome site, I am new to bow hunting and I have been reading articles and forums extensively.
I would like to thank the group of people make this site happen as I have learned much in a very short time.
I hunt and fish regularly, and I find it very pleasing to find people with similar interests.
Please keep it up!

Nice to find somewhere that look a all questions in a professionnal manner.
I was a bow hunter, not any good at it but enjoyed the quiet times before having kids and having to change jobs "trucking". This realy took alot of practice time away that I would of needed. Now 11 years later I'm ready to take the dissision between a bow or a crossbow?
A bad day hunting is better than a good day at work!!

Welcome all New comers to the Bowzone
As was said earlier Bowzone.ca has some of the best resources around including Three Top shooters and one World Champ, each in my exp. have been more than willing to provide advice if you ask ... I know I am shooting 100% better since I asked Sniper, Jackal and ACC3-28 for help.
The Bowzone also caters to the Average joe which is why I feel this is by far and large the best site going .... Bowzone.ca has Recipes for game, hunting and shooting Tips, some truly awesome giveaways thanks to the Bowzone.ca sponsors (I would be here all night if I were to list them off)
I mean didja see Gary Kennas Mount ? Thats gotta be worth close to 1K CDN ...truely awesome
To quote a line from American Express......"Membership does have its privilages" ..... that really holds true here at Bowzone.ca

Great site! I've been lurking here all season, love the tips and stories, but I must confess....I'm just a bowhunter wanna be!! I've been gun hunting for over 15 years and have always wanted to give bowhunting a try. At least I know some of the rewards and challenges from reading all your posts. I'm starting archery training this winter to be ready for next season. When I moved to Edmonton, I noticed all the archery area opportunities close to where I live, not to mention gorgeous deer.

Hey there Mudd, WELCOME TO BOWZONE. Its about time you got over here. Glad to hear you're gonna pick up the bow. I hope you have more time for it this year than I did this past year. You will get all the advice you will need here on bowzone to get you set up and shoooting like Robin Hood by next fall. The moose will have to fall to an arrow next year since either of us will be getting a draw so get ready. Give me a call and we will go down to the one of the archery ranges and try out some bows. I think you will like it over here at bowzone.

Hi all i just signed up last night. I just took up archery about a year ago with an old recurve, worked my way through a pse coyote up to a martin hatfield takedown which i use hunting (you wouldn't believe how much room you need in a blind to swing that thing hunting geese). Traded off the coyote on a darton which i set up with a drop away, a surlok and all the gizmo's using a nasty boy release. I'm using it for target shooting and particularily 3D, was to the Lloyd shoot and had a blast.

Hey there!
Taxman here from Hot Spot Hunting, Huntontario and The Ontario Hunting Lodge.
I live in Ayr, Ontario where deer are plentiful. However, you can only use archery (Oct 1 to Dec 31) and shotgun for one week only in November. Seeing how I had neither, I really needed to make an investment to get going down here.
Picking up a used PSE Elite on February 11th with almost all the bells and whistles I need.
Picked the bow because of the longer hunting season. Have two boys (5 and 7) and now I'll be able to take them out hunting on weekends.
Rifle hunted for the past four years and will continue that as well. Three deer taken so far with the rifle (two bucks and a doe).
To say I'm an hunting addict is an understatement however, I'm also a very busy family man and it's hard to find time to get out there!
Talk to you all later,
Mike

I feel like an AA commercial. "Hi I'm Tom Byers and I'm a Bowhunter", All I have to say is...Finally a Canadian Site!!!! What do I shoot???
I have three bows at the moment. Just setting my New Reflex Timberwolf up. Will have Trophy Taker shakey rest, Bohning lynx 6 quiver, Trophy Ridge Matrix sight, 4060 XTreme carbons. I haven't decided on a stabilizer yet but probably a Doinker. The other two are both Reflex as well, an Xtreme and a Caribou II. Will probably sell these others as Jess thinks three set-ups are two to many, lol. Extreme has Shockbloker 1000 stabilizer, TruGlo Brite sight, Golden Key Premier rest, and Reflex Quiver with Xtreme 4060 Carbons. The Caribou has Chuck Adams super slam quiver loaded with XX78 Superslams, 2 Superslam stabilizers, Archers Choice Grizzly Sight, and a Springy rest, shot with tab. The other bows are shot with Scott Mongoose releases.
My interests are Waterfowling, Bowhunting, Trapping, Fishing, God and Family, not necessarily in that priority.
Hope to be on here a lot more now that I found you!

Hi Folks, I'm just here for the Beer, er, I meant to learn a bit about shooting these contraptions. 8)
Seriously, I've always been interested in archery since I was a kid, and now that I actually have a little spare time, I wouldn't mind learning from you folks here.
I now have three bows, and all three are manufactured be Bear Archery.
One is an older Whitetail that runs 45-65 LBS. The second is a Super Strike XLR that runs 60-70 LBS, and last is a takedown recurve that is 25 LBS, and is fun to shoot at a small range I have in the yard.

My name is Geoff (TBow on all of the hunting sites that I post on). I live in southeastern Ontario on the St. Lawrence River just south of Ottawa (not that that's anything to brag about these days). I've been seriously bowhunting for 33 years, in addition to the 10 years or so that I used to chase groundhogs, squirrels and frogs with my dad's old longbow when I was a kid back in the 60s.
I currently shoot a Mathews, but started out with a browning recurve so many ions ago. There's been quite an array of arrow launchers between then and now. I was a member of the Ontario Bowhunters Association (OBA) when it was still in existence and am currently affiliated with the Ontarion Federation Of Anglers & Hunters through my local Fish & Game Club which I have been a member of since 1957 and was president of for almost 15 years.
I try to make it out to my club's 3D shoots when I can, maybe 3 shoots a year or so, and shoot league in the winter. I'm still a finger shooter (not a lot of us around anymore) so if I ever opt to return to trad, I'm hoping I can make the transition back there fairly easily.
The lure to this site quite frankly was the notice of the Great Canadian Give-a-Way posted over on RealTree.ca. I also had a personal buddy of mine who is associated with the Ontario big game record book, told me about the site, so here I am. I was reluctant at first to sign up for the give-a-way citing the possibility of getting spammed to death, but touch wood, I haven't seen a piece of junk email yet! THANK YOU!
I love writing stories and I try to be entertaining as opposed to trying to herald my personal conquests, which by the way, aren't many. The measurement of my joy in bowhunting is guaged by the quality time I spend afield with friends and family and being able to watch the sunrise over a wooded lot or cultivated field. Bulging freezers of wild game meat are nice, but are not the primary reason I bowhunt, which is a good thing, 'cause a bulging freezer I ain't got!
I've been giving archery instruction lessons to kids at my F&G club for a few years now and just last year I took the Ontario Archers Instructors Course. I took the International Bowhunter's course way back in the 80s (stateside) and took the first instructor's course in Ontario for the same course.
So let's see, except for giving you my Social Insurance Number and the name of my first hunting dog when I was a kid, that's just about it for 'ol TBow!
Great site! I've got it listed on My Favorites.

Been on medical leave from work. Had a second hip replacement. Watching a lot of Wild TV. Got the bug to try Archery. I figure since the joints where done I can manage some outdoor adventures again. I love the bush, camping and fishing. Ended up purchasing a Marten Saber with Truarc cam, sidewinder radiant sight. Practice is going well. Only able to do 1 hour stretches at the range now but will soon be ready to venture a bit farther. I am interested in Wild Turkey, Whitetail and Boar hunting. I have the summer to study up and practice my targets. From what I have read on your forums there is a lot of knowledge out there. Be ready guys and gals I got a lot of questions.
Hello Everybody!!
I am new to the site and just getting back into archery and bow hunting! I pulled my old Bear Compond Bow out of the rafters and sent it to a shop to get new cables and strings and a much needed tune up. I purchased some new sites and now I am back shotting targets. Anyways I am interested to read what people have to say on archery products and learn about archery and bow hunting again.
P.S. - I am happy that this site has a strong Canadian Content to it. Keep up the good work and hopefully we will see more canadian content in the future.

I'm new here. Nice to have a Canadian site to share info and stories. I live on Vancouver Island in BC. Have recently acquired a Hoyt Vipertec and am going through the pains of learning to shoot with a release and sights after many years instinctive with my out Nova. Love the bow and will perservere. I mostly hunt blacktail and bear here on and around our farm, as well as in the logging divisions. Heading to northern BC with hubby in Sept for elk/moose and taking the bow & gun. We dairy farm and on the side I work formatting an e-newsletter for outfitter Jim Shockey.

New to the site today. I shoot a Hoyt Supreme ('94). Cobra Sidewinder LX sight and still using aluminum arrows. I will most likely upgrade in a year or two to a new bow and carbon arrows. I have really enjoyed the site and got some great information already. Thanks for all the help now and in the future.

New to this site but I’m not new to archery and hunting.
I listen to everything but studies shows that I reply a lot quicker if you call me Julian (or fish).
I’m 32 aiming for 80.
Currently I’m shooting a 2006 BowTech Tribute.
Ohhh yeah…by the way…this is an excellent site

Don't bowhunt anymore. Broke my back and am not suppose to be picking up more than 35 pounds. I did a lot of archery before the injury, but now it's just rifle. I sold my bow and everything else that was archery related. Can't walk a long way now, so it's find my spot and sit. I might buy another one in the future, don't know for sure. I do miss it.Any rifle or reloading questions, and I will be more than happy to help. I've got over 40 years of reloading and hunting experience, both archery and rifle handgun behind me. Did a lot of repair work too. I was off work for 3 years after the accident and spent most of the time either fishing or repairing firearms for a store here. They went out of business, and so did I. Now it's work six nights a week and sleep on Saturday, my only night off. Take care all!

Hi all,
I guess it's about time I introduce myself eh!
My name is Mike, I'm 44 years old going on 45 in October. I'm happily married, I'm a father and a grandfather. I've been hunting for going on 31 years this coming season, 26 of them years have been from behind the arrow. For as long as I can remember, I've always had and always will have a love for the sport of archery hunting. I haven't hunted with a firearm since since 1996 due to my love for hunting archery equipment.
I first started out with shooting fiberglass bows at targets, stumps, etc when I was maybe 12-13 years old. By the time I turned 16 years of age I started shooting an old 30# recurve bow I had bought from a garage sale. Then started shooting my first bear compound at 17 years old, practiced with it for almost a year before actually going into the woods and hunt with it. From there I hunted with compounds until right up until I had an accident at 27 years old, which left me unable to practice as much as I liked to never mind holding a bow at full-draw for a long period of time.
So from there I got discouraged after a couple of years of no archery hunting, cause I could no longer do what I loved to do best. And that was archery hunting which was not very easy for me to accept. So seeing that in Ontario crossbows are accepted during the regular archery season, my only other option was for me to purchase a crossbow which is what I did. After a few years of hunting with a crossbow my shoulder started to get somewhat better that I could once again start shooting a compound but I didn't trust my shoulder to actually go out and start hunting with it.
Now after the years of shooting/hunting with the crossbow my shoulder is doing much better and I'm back to hunting with a compound bow. However I still keep a crossbow in my arsenal for the late season deer hunt as in the WMU's I hunt in closes on Dec 31 and I find it very awkward to shoot a compound when your dressed like the Micheline man!... That said, I currently shoot a Hoyt Vtec which was very good to me last season and have a Mathews Switchback on order which I'm patiently waiting for it to arrive. And that about sums it up!...
Looking forward to convers with people who have the same passions as I.

Hi there.
I've visited the site a few times in the past, but I just decided to register. I live in NW Alberta, roughly half an hour north of Grande Prairie.
I shoot a High Country Safari (It's my first compound bow). It's older, and a heavy beast, but I'm just getting into the sport, and the price was right.
Looking forward to learning what I can from you guys. :D

Had a peek see at the site and signed up in a hurry. Been hunting rifle style with my pop's and bro since I twas a wee grasshopper, shooting a bow on the side as a hobby (just target). Slowly slipped away from the bow for the past few plus years (not sure why). Now I'm waiting on a 2007 model Bowtech TomKat to get my hunt on, want to get away from the rifle and into the bow as much as I can. I'm liking the interaction and shared information on this site, plus the pics don't hurt my feelings one bit.
Look forward to you ol' fawlkers out dere givin up some advice.
Any testimonials on the TomKat's out there?

Hey Scooter,
I'll get my profile updated once I can navigate the site good enough.
I'm living north of Edmonton Alberta right now in sturgeon county, and will be moving shortly to parkland county which is west of Edmonton. I don't know really anyone in the new area I'll be moving, any tips to find hunting spots? I will be picking up some county maps as well as topos for a start.

hi, i just registered and got a pm from scooter, the link didnt work for me, but i found the thread finally.
i used to hunt with a compound, then fell out of a tree and broke a leg, switched to rifle hunting on the ground for the biggest part of 7 years, then this spring i bought a recurve with the idea of learning to shoot it well enough to hunt with it, well i just barely did get good enough and havent even picked up my 7mm this season.
i'm 45, live in kentucky, have a wife and 3 boys, squirrel hunt , deer hunt , and fish sometimes.
thanks for the welcome scooter!

Thanks for the site and I look fwd to getting to know you folk.

Hi everyone,
Just found this sight thanks to Jude Hooey, looks great. I've been hunting with a bow for over 40 years (started on small game very young) still love it. I've taken just about every species of game available with a bow and the thrill never lets up. Started off with a 26 lb pull recurve , went through a few types of compounds and now am shooting a custom long bow almost excusively. Looking forward to chating with a few of you soon.

Hey Scooter....I'm really excited to be a memeber of bowzone.ca. It looks like a cool place to share stories, pics, advice, etc. I live near Edmonton AB, and have been hunting since I was 12.....so 15 years now. Most of my hunting in the past was with a rifle, but I took up bowhunting 2 years ago and I just love it. I see a lot more animals and learn more about them and their habits when I am bowhunting.
Look forward to becoming a part of this community

Hi All,
I'm a frustrated bowhunter in Nova Scotia, just starting to break into target archery in the BHU category. I just switched to a back tension release (which is entertaining for spectators) but I shoot a Mathews MQ32. I have a great time in the 90M FITA shoots and I'm currently making plans to shoot nationals in 'The Peg'. It will be my first time an Manitoba. Can't wait.

Hello all!!
I've been shooting bows for around 25 years now. Up until two years ago I shot compounds for everything, hunting, 3D, indoor target, etc.
Two years ago I pick up some trad gear to simplify things and to bring some enjoyment back into my shooting. I haven't picked up a compound since. I haven't shunned them I've just grown bored with them and really needed a change. So far I've primarily hunted with the recurve but of late I've been feeling the urge to get back into the target aspects as well.
See ya on the boards

New to the site but have been bow hunting for 24 years, back when there wasn't all of these wonderful tools and technology to shorten the learning curve. Hell I was still shooting fingers up to two years ago. I love to chase elk but have never taken one with the bow. Whitetails get most of my attention just because they are closer to home. Managed to get in 50 days +/- this year, most just after work or a couple of hours in the a.m., Ya Ha Tinda Ranch for a week in Sept with horses, had lots of fun this year.

Hello ALL! :) I just found this site while doing a google search and decided to jump in! :D
My username pretty much sums up my life LOL if theres a season on it I hunt it! I live in the southeastern U.S. but Ive hunted all over this country and a couple Canadian provinces. I guess my biggest passion is turkey hunting. Ive done a single season slam 2 springs ago and completed another slam this past spring although it wasnt a "single season slam" this time. ALL of these have been unguided. My only hunting trip that has been really a guided hunt was last month when I went to northern Quebec on a caribou hunt and the only reason I used a guide then was because we had to fly out to the herds and not having a guide wasnt an option. I much prefer to do it on my own! LOL If anyone here has anything they would like to swap for an Eastern turkey hunt Im sure we can work something out!

Hi my name is Alison or Ali, my hubby is a bow hunter and I own a few recurves of my own but have not shot them since I was a young girl - I am hoping to get back into it again as I noticed they need to have the dust blown off them - hopefully my bows arent so out dated that I get laughed off the site
I do enjoy hunting very much with my family and we are avid fisherpeople also - I belong to another forum and saw a post from a fellow member there that intrigued me and the only way I could read it was to register here so HERE I AM and looking forward to reading and learning and maybe once in a while contributing to
thanks bunches

Welcome to the BowZone Ali!
I found the site googling bowhunting Edmonton. I'm in Texas, just north of Houston & in the oil & gas industry. My company has an office in Calgary & we are doing work near Ft. Saskatchewan. We also have several folks located in Edmonton. Been to Calgary a couple of times for business. First trip was last year in mid-Nov. It about killed me that was up there with no bow & no plans to hunt, just work:bang: Last trip was this past Tuesday. I've been deer hunting my entire life & have been using strickly archery gear for about 4 years. I'm glad I found this sight now maybe I can get understand what the bowzones of AB are all about. I've already got a pretty good idea. All I know is I got to get up there sometime & experience an AB deer hunt. I would love to be in the woods thinking the buck of my lifetime could step into my shooting lane at any moment. Looking forward to seeing more pics & learning more about big bucks of the North.

Hi All,
Found out about this site thru the TradTalk forum and started reading about the 18m challenge. I felt it was time to have a go at some tournaments and this seemed like a friendly place.
About me: started archery August 2006 after a 35 year layoff. I goa cheap fiberglass bow and whatever arrows the shop owner could find that were long enough for me.
It was rough for a while because very few shops want to deal with you if you don't have wheels on your bow. Then I found the TradTalk website, read a lot, practiced a lot and got to the point where I can hit the barn door shooting barebow!:D
Current setup: KAP T-Rex riser, medium Winact Focus limbs, Cartel Xpert rest and a Cartel Super plunger. Arrows:Beman ICS ventures, size 500, 100 grain tips, 4" LW shield feathers.
Anyway, see you guys on the boards and Happy Holidays!

New to this site, came over to get into the archery competition.
I am an avid 3D shooter as are 5 other members of my family. My wife, son who some of you may know as WillyQ from HBC, my daughter in law Sammy 99, my granddaughter and my grandson. Numerous provincial titles in the group ( not me ) and Sam is the reigning Canadian champion in 3D.
I also Bow Hunt . I have only been successfull on one deer but really want my spring bear
I shoot compound. A Diamond rapture 31 1/2" draw at 57 # for target and 3D. I turn it down for target.
I shoot a High Country Carbon Force at 64 # for hunting. May be an older bow but it is awesome. Good shooting everyone Mike

Hi, my name is Chad and I've been a member down in Stavely for going on three years.
Shooting a Bowtech Pro 40 Dually at 60lbs. Have been doing target and 3-D locally in Stavely, thinking about starting hunting if I can gain some more confidence in my shot placement. Just completed a great clinic with Shane Olsen and Cody Draper and shot at our Stavely indoor event this last weekend.
I'm enjoying reading some good information here, and hope to put some names to faces at some shoots.

Hello. Ed here. Shooting a longbow the last few years after giving away two compounds to family members. Moved to Ireland from the States last year and still looking to get my bow and other equipment over here. Would like to add a recurve in the next year or two.
Didn't mean for my whole e-mail address to be used as my handle. Can anyone tell me how to change it? Thanks and thanks for the welcome, Scooter.

Hello my name is peter, I shoot out of the club Central Alberta Archers Association out of red deer. I have been to some 3d shoots and seen some of the people on here. I am shooting a Matthews SwitchbackXT with 291/2 inch draw with a 65# pull. But since I get harrassed so much at the shop I just bought a bowtech Allegiance still getting it set up so I will be asking questions about gear pretty soon. Hope you guys can help. I love this site and will be joining as a supporting member shortly.

Just got hooked up with this site, looks good so far, that is as much as my limited internet skills allow me. Those of you that shot at the Hinton shoots may know me. I have now relocated to Niton Junction and now that life is slowing down a little I hope to attend more archery events. I went to the MOAS in Red Deer and had a blast! It was great to catch up with people that I haven't seen in a few years, and it's great to see so many new faces in the sport.Looking forward to hitting more shoots this summer.
Thanks

I have shot for a bit - gone through some recurves and a couple of compounds - went back to my roots of instinctive with my longbow - just have to draw, anchor and release - and make sure the neighbours cat is inside!
Living in BC - Elkford to be exact - been here a while and intend to stay - the elk hunting is fantastic.
