Hey all. I'm looking to start some target archery(totally new to archery to begin with) and so I was looking to buy a setup, perhaps $200-$270 for the full bow. I'm from Saskatoon and we have a wholesale sports in town. I also have a gift certificate i got for christmas to wholesale sports so I was thinking of spending it on a recurve bow, though the big question is if wholesale sports has any good recurve bows for beginners? The gift certificate is only $50 so perhaps even the the $50 won't make it worth buying the bow at wholesale sports, but perhaps some arrows(something i also know nothing about)? Any tips or comments would be welcome.

My suggestion would be to start with a bow like the Samick Sage. If you want to spend a little bit more and have a really kick a#@ recurve setup go with a Hoyt Excel riser with a set of TradTech Black Max limbs.
Good luck with whatever you choose and welcome to Bowzone!

thanks for the tip. I have read a few posts about people suggesting the samick sage also, though its too bad they aren't available at wholesale sports (or atleast not on their website) I was kinda interested in the PSE optima that they have because of the metal riser though i'm not sure if it'd be a good bow alltogether. Do you guys have any recommendations on places to buy bows and such online? or perhaps if anyone is familiar with saskatoon a place to buy locally.

For online stuff (Ontario that is) I usually go to Archers Nook and The Bow Shop.

i stay away from wholesale sports as far as archery is concerned. Their "pro" desk leaves a lot to be desired. Service really sucks too. North Pro sports is a good place to get into archery but they don't have much as far as recurves go. You might be better off trying to buy second hand. Try pawn shops or kijiji.
