I live in Saskatoon, SK but my hunting area is south of Saskatoon and i have heard from the locals there that they have sighted a cougar 3 times within the past 2 months! I asked each person to see if they didnt see maybe a deer or possibly a lynx but they are positve its a cougar, they all say its much too large for a lynx and they have never seen a deer with a tail that long and thick! I am hoping to get this cougar on camera, seems to be patrolling the cattle pastures. I cannot disclose the location of this area as it is an indian reservation and alot of poachers take advantage of this land and the local natives do not appreciate this. Has anyone else in Saskatchewan seen any cougars??

I was out hunting Elk in the Fort a la Corne area on Wednesday. I am positive that we spotted a Cougar as well. I was across a wheat field and it definitley was not a deer, fox, coyote, or wolf. It was larger and a different color. It sat and watched us until dark. I have heard from others that sightings are happening more and more.

Isn't that a little odd for that area? I know there are sparse cougar populations in Sask., but I thought they were farther North than that.

Yes it is very odd for that area. It seems therer are more and more spotted in the central and north central areas of the province.

We get the odd sighting here in western Manitoba as well. There are probably more around than we know of just because of their secretive nature. My brother saw one about 7 or 8 years ago when he was deer hunting and my grandmother saw one crossing the highway between two pieces of bush years ago. I know of 2 cases of horses being attacked as well. One survived but was pretty tore up and the cat killed the other one.

I realize this is not up to date info, but while on a rifle elk hunt in January 2003, my hunting buddy and I saw the same cougar on two different days just on the north side of riding moutnain national park (straight south of grandview). The first time was just shock and "What the &*!@#$ was that". The second day was "lets go get him, I got a trappers license".

Long story short - 3-1/2 feet of snow, Clutch piled up on snowmobile, Never saw him again.
