Last night while driving home from my parents we had the unexpected pleasure of having a dodge mini-van pull up next to us at lights on Deerfoot South with a 7x8 elk rack sitting nicely on the roof!
The mass was impressive but the length of the main beams and inside spread were not the best I've seen. There was two old crusty looking guys in thier hunting clothes sitting in the front and someone wedged in the back amongst a van full of stuff from floor to ceiling.
I got them to roll down the window to congratulate them on their elk and ask where they got him... They're raspy reply with a farmer's drawl was Saskatchewan... that was it. I commended them, the light turned green and we rolled up our windows and went our seperate ways.
As the van accelerated ahead of us we noticed an interesting tidbit - the license plates were Washington!
So riddle me this...
How does a Washington state farmer bag a dandy non-typical elk when he's more than 3 hours away from the closest elk opportunity this side of the Saskatchewan border which is supposed to be his destination (and hasn't made it there yet) and his hunting vehicle is a bonafide kidlet transport !!!???
