I am fairly sure that the situation you described is not legal. As for ethical, you could debate that til the cows come home. I personally feel that as long as there are two people present and a tag is cut then there is nothing wrong with it. I don't agree with shooting an animal and then going looking for someone who has a tag. No doubt the two of you would be splitting the animal between you therefore what does it matter whose tag is cancelled. I know that in the eyes of the law, the one who pulls the trigger cancels the tag. But what happens if you get a shot and your partner also ends up taking a shot and you both hit the animal. Who decides which is the kill shot and who should cancel the tag. In the end as long as a tag is cancelled for any animal shot then in my opinion it is OK
Just my humble opinion.

I agree with swamper. That I believe is why the game branch has started the "shared hunt" program because they recognized that this was going on with groups of people putting in for a draw and then hunting for the number of tags. I see nothing unethical about it. It may not be technically legal but the tag is already bought and properly cancelled. Not shoot first buy later.
