I'm new to Calgary and I'm having a bit of a time finding a location to hunt whitetails that I don't have to spend 3 months driving around asking for permission. Anyone know of a few spots that a guy can go out for the day and at least see a whitetail let alone shot one?

I'd appreciate it.

Best advice I can give ya, is get out and knock on some doors. If you're looking for public land...head out to the Ghost/Waiparous region in the forestry west of Calgary. It's about a 45 min drive west on 1A and then north on the forestry trunk road (940).

There are plenty of them around in the bowzone south, west and even north of calgary if you want to just drive - there's lots of mulies too. You can park an any road allowance along the bow river close to Mckinnon Flats/Dalemead (wmu 212, 132, etc.) and watch both sides of the river valley. The colder it gets the more you wil see. Warden is bang on with the recommending the southern portion of the Bighorn District - there's oodles of animals around. I like to frequent wmu 414, 416 & 417 when I'm just checking out the local talent for antlers...

There seem to be lots lately in the Old Man rec area on the forstry trunk road as well (wmu 402).

I was in the Porcupine Hills this past weekend (1.5 hrs south of Calgary) and the area is polluted with deer sign, I even found a 3 pt. shed that was fairly heavy for its frame.

It's not easy getting permission in close (eg: Calgary bowzone )
There's some lease land in there though, it's probably the only good bet on something close in:
