What kind of budget do you have for the site, rest, release, and other accessories, do you also need arrows?

I have about 300 to spend. I think I would rather buy the good gear now rather
Then buy the cheap accessories and have to go back in a year or so and have to spend more money.... Your help would be greatly appreciated thanks

If you are not set on a drop away rest then i think a whisker bisquit is a great buy and very dependable. my favorite drop away right now is a vapour trail limbdriver. for sights i really like the look of the G5 rock, however i shoot a sword target site and love it. i would say if you have to cut money somewhere the release may be the spot, so just try a few and see what works for you. My favorite arrows right now are Carbon Force Pro 200 shafts made by PSE, they are very precise and super durable. If you want a hunting stabilizer doinker is always good, and for the price you cant go wrong with a limbsaver x-coil stabilizer either. Not sure if i was any help at all.

Thanks for the advise... Does bass pro shop sell those types of sights and arrow rests??? Is ripcord a good arrow rest ???

Im not really sure what BPS carries since i have never been to one, sorry i cant help there, but im fairly certain they will sell the bisquit rests. The ripcords seem to be great rests from what i hear, never shot one myself though. the only problem i have seen is with light poundage bows using the ripcord. Two kids at a shoot a while back could not shoot consistant and when we looked at it their rests were only dropping about 25% of the time, this could be due to setup also though. The octane hostage pro is another bristle rest that is quite good, but you have to get the pro as the standard model with black brushes wears out fairly fast and this basically moves your rest point lower and lower.

I just set up my first bow 2 weeks ago. I was in the same spot as you not knowing what to buy. I am also new to achery but spent lots of time reseaching produces because I wanted the best set up right away. I did a day trip to Calgary and hit Bass pro shop, Jim bows, and Calgary archery centre. This is what I found.
Bass Pro Shop....No Service at all. Prices are high. stock is good. I did end up buying a hard case for $35. and a shooting block for $50.
Calgary Archery Centre..... didn't find much there, but good service and a killer range.
Jim Bows..... Best service I have ever had. lowest prices around. I bought a Tri-Van pro rest $140 and worth every penny. A high end 5 pin site with light $90 its a brand name with out the name on it. doz. gold tip arrows $80. sling $10 and a peep $5
I have some pictures posted in the tech talk form here.

A nother thing to think of is, if you don't really love your bow, My buddy bought a Bowtech Assassin RTH package for $670. twice the bow for same money.

Go to Jim Bows....He will help you out , I know I will never go to Calgary with out stopping there.

I would have to dissagree with the fact that the assassin is twice the bow for the same price. It looks like a good bow, but the Redhead Toxik is also made by Bowtech if my memory serves me correctly. It may use slightly older Bowtech technology but its still Bowtech engineered and built. I do agree however that the independant shops will serve you better, and have far greater knowledge of what they are selling you. The guy at bass pro likley came there after graduating from the walmart stock boy program, and may not really know what hes selling you. This is not always the case but seems to hold true more often than not.

yes that is true. Bowtech does make them. but thats last years bow or older. the Assassin just feels so much beter to me IMOA. I'm just saying go give it a pull.

Sorry, i should not have compared the bows. The Best Bow out there is the one that feels the best in your hand. Did you gear it up yet? if so what ya get?
