I think it should be up tp the leaser of the property, after all if you lease a car it is your car and your responsibility

Ya but a car is owned by the car dealership, lease land is owned by the crown ,therefor all of us.
If it is truly public land then we should all have access to it.

Exactly right, Sniper.
Most of the leaseholders on these lands don't even have year round use of this land. Most of the holders of GRL leases(grazing range leases) are supposed to have their livestock back on home range by Oct. 31.
A lot of them are bent about the new access legislation, because they were starting to think that it was their land, and not the people of Alberta's.
We do have a right to access this land, but what we're going to have to do is make sure that these lands are not sold off to the leaseholders on the quiet. If this happens we WILL lose access to these lands and we WILL see the NO HUNTING signs upon the fences!!!!

I think the lease holder should have the right to keep people off the lease until some of the rules of the lease are changed. Did you know that the goverment wont take the responibilty for any damage done to the land such as if you or I get access to the lease and we happen to start a fire. That the land owners around the area can sue the lease holder that has the lease you were on when the fire was started we get to walk away and nothing done to us even if it burns up half the country side. If we want access to this lands the ranchers should not be responible for these sorts of things. So its not quit like leasing a car if I hit someone with your car that has been leased the person I hit can sue me not the lease holder or the dealer who leased to you.So dont hold the grudge against the ranchers hold it against the IDIOTS who make these stupid rule for the lease land issues

I am not sure what to think on the issue. I used the website last year to get a hold of the lease holder. I followed all the rules when asking for permission and was given the answer that he still had one cow on the lease and was not sure where it was. I actually had to have a mediator call the lease holder and explain to him the rules. I may have won the battle but ultimately could lose the war as now that lease holder knows my name and we all know how tight knit a group farmers are who live in close proximity of each other. So far I have not had a problem with access to lands surrounding the area but it could of gone ugly.
The whole point may be mute anyway as I read in Alberta Outdoorsman that the Honorable Mr. Cardinal and the rest of the Tories have been pushing for the sale of crown land with the leade holders getting first dibs. I am not upset that the lease holder has the first right of refusal but am a little pissed at how hush hush it has been.
My two cents worth
