I will be hunting elk for the first time. I was drawn for antlerless elk in the Alberta foothills. Can cows be called in? Any info. appreciated. Thanks!

I am in now means a Elk expert trust me if I were I would get one evrey year as is I am still looking for my first but that beeing said The way I have come closest is when they are in rut or pre-rut like now the ghirping of the cow call will catch the attention of the hurd bull or satleite bulls thinking there is a stray cow so he will come towards you but also keep his gals with him..... Like I siad I am no expert so if anyone want too clear me up feel free.... I also have a cow Elk tag this year and plan on filling it..

Good Luck....

In my experience hunting elk the bulls are much easier to call than a cow but I have called in cows using calf sounds and bull sounds .The calf sounds will work better in the early part of the season the cows seem to still have there motherly instinct going as the season goes on I would still use the calf sounds but try a bull call ( the chuckle seem to work for me )only if you find a herd that does not have a bull with them. The cows are looking for a boyfriend just as bad as the bull is looking for cows if you catch them in cycle hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!
