Well with the fall season approaching i thought I would start a journal. I took a black bear this spring, but already posted on that elsewhere on the site so I will start with the fall season.
My first trip of the year will be a 6 day foray with swamper about an hour north of home. We went to scout out a campsite and have a quick look around. Not much scouting is required for us here as swamper knows this area like the back of his hand after living in and hunting this area for over 15 years. Our primary goal will be immature bull moose and mule deer. In scouting today we saw a few deer, a coyote and two beautiful black wolves....I would have killed for my 270 when we saw those guys! We also put a stalk on a black bear and had a great shot opportunity at 40 yds, but swamper passed as it was not that big. When we came in I decided to fine tune my broadheads a bit more....very pleased with the way they are shooting, I'm cutting paper on a 3" X 3" square out to 60 yds so the hunting rig is more than ready to go.

10 more sleeps to go!!!!!!

Well I'm back from the first foray of the season! Swamper and myself took a five day trip out to region 7. Moose were fairly scarce but we did manage to see 3 bulls (all too big). I tagged out on a two point muley opening morning with my bow, and swamper followed suit on the 3rd day of the hunt. Saw a ton of black bears and swamper made several attempts, but it just didn't quite come together for him. Heading back out there this week-end to try and knock down a bull moose, as swamper has an any bull tag that starts on the 10th.

Well its Sept 12, and I just got in from the bush. Went out with my Pop, and my little guys. We headed up into an area that Pop had seen an immature bull just before season opened. I had decided that finding an immature bull might be a bit of a challenge so I was packing my rifle. Pop had seen the bull in a cut block at the 20K board so we had a real good look at the block when we arrived.....NADA. We then proceed further up the road and as we crest a hill around the 22K board I see a bull in the middle of the road less than 100 yds away. Truck stopped, jump out, load rifle, get him in the scope, count points.....1,2,3...DAMN!....whats on the other side??? he turns his head and low and behold there's a beautiful sight......two long daggers. Now at this point he is facing almost straight away....so I wait. After about 30 seconds he decides he's had enough and makes a move for the bush, his first step as he turned took his foot into the ditch as I pulled the trigger......BOOM!!! Down he goes like a ton of bricks, the drop of his front end into the ditch caused me to hit him up high, clipping the bottom of the spine. Not my first choice for shot location, but it sure was nice to have him laying right there at the edge of the road to back the truck right up to!!!

On a side note, Swamper also filled his LEH bull tag yesterday on a dandy bull!!
