It"s a bummer That it's the same weekend as the 3D nats at red deer or there would be quite a few of us 3D ers at the shoot.:boohoo:

Unfortunatley, I will be heading to the Nationals in Red Deer. It really is too bad that these could not be held on seperate weekends. :(

Well I'm attending the AGM this year.
Perhaps I shall persue that line of questioning.

From what I have heard the Lac La Biche venue was booked prior to Red Deer being awarded the 2010 Nationals and announcing their date of choice in April.

Apparently there was an attempt by the ATAA to find an alternate date with no success.

Yes Lac le biche booked first and they are unable to change due to other bookings in the venue. Whne I first saw the dates I spoke with both organizers. From what I understand no one else but wanted to host Indoor Nationals so Red Deer agreed to do it and that is the only space they could get as well...

It is unfortunate but I understand the only alternative was to not have Nationals.....

Putting on a shoot especially indoors is a lot of work and requires a lot of volunteer work from the clubs as targets have to be transported to and from, setup and taken down all in a weekend in a rented facility along with all sorts of liability issues and renting a facility big enough is a risk for a club. If there is not a good turnout then club puts in a lot of time and effort and has chance of losing money.

Thank goodness for the Red deer club and all clubs that take time to create an indoor shoot. Finding a good venues to put on an indoor shoot is very hard especially when these venues are in demand for every type of trade show etc...

Kudos to both clubs stepping up and doing what they can... It makes a hard decision for some archers who want to do both 3D and Target.

However having the opportunity to make this choice is better than not having either shoot to attend.

Once again this outlines why we need to support our local clubs and shoots as much as we can.

One thing I noticed in US is that all the major shoots are in a fixed location on a fixed date. The rotation thing in Canada is a great idea but logistically it can be difficult.

The Ontario Spring Classic, and Mother of all shoots are two examples of shoots that are on fixed weekends at a fixed location and I look at how successful the MOAS is...

I look in US at their system and people can schedule long in advance and clubs have an idea of what is going to happen and can plan for a certain number in attendance....

Since the Indoor 3D nationals seems to be hosted by Western Provinces mostly maybe we could get see if Red deer wants to do it permanently and can book the facility same weekend next year and then Provincial shoots can book around it!...

The rotation thing could work but it is hard for clubs to commit to something 2 or 3 years down the road to get the advance notice required to be able to get a venue....
