Technology has brought us a long way in the bowhunting world. Now, with the push of a button, we instantly know how far away the target is. How many of you use a laser rangefinder in hunting situations? I just bought a Bushnell Yardage Pro Compact 800 and can't wait to get to use it.

i have a bushnell yardage pro 500 and i have found that most of the time i use it to range rocks or trees in the area because alot of the time you don't have time or range of movement to range approaching game. However its a godsend to spot and stalk hunting bedded mulies in the open where ranges are hard to estimate and the deer aren't moving or lookin at you.

I got a Bushnell yardage pro for Christmas last year from my wife. It works well and I look forward to using it for hunting this year. I am going to look like I am wearing a Batman Utility belt this year. I don't know how I am going to pack all of this but this is what is going with me this year. GPS, 2 way radio, knife, extra shells and clip(for gun hunts), water bottle, camera. I am going to need a backpak this year.

I have that very same model. Have yet to use it hunting, but have played with it on spotting forays. The thing I like about the compact 800 is the scan capability and the fact that you can set it for rainy days and not to pick up anything under 150 yards, depending on your situation. Can't wait to try it out on Sept 1st. Arhery season starts here in the Cariboo Sept 1.

I have toyed with the idea of getting one but I don't know how practical it would be I have a hard enough time getting my bow up and draw B4 being spotted I can't imagine doing the rangefinder first then the bow... Let me know how it works out....

A simple rangefinder I came up with.I took a short piece of D.O.. tape and put a stirp on the side of my pin gaurd, then small pieces of the contrast colour place at the top and 11,15 and 23mm.As I draw my bow Iline up the gaps in the tape to the body of the deer.If it lines up with the top and 15mm tapes the deer is about 30 yards.the 11mm tape is about 40 yards and the 23mm tape is about 20 yards. It's not exact but it is close.

I just got my Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport in the mail yesterday. I really like the feel of it and can't wait to hunt with it. No more pacing out yardages from the base of my tree!

I have the yardage Pro 500, and as was stated earlier by Hubbard you will find that you will use it to range objects unless you have the opportunity to watch the animal come into you. Surprise encounters, doesn't give a lot of time for movement.
One other thing, the size of the animal will really affect your yardage judgments, that's where the range finder comes in handy

I've got a year on my compact 800, and I love it. It'll give you good readings out to as far as you can hold it steady. Best toy I've bought in a while!!! I'll hopefully be using it on Tuesday. Woohaw!!! Moose season's back!!!!!

I have a Leica 500. I have used it for the last two years now and don't know I managed without it. Like others I use it to range existing pieces of terrain around my stands. Its nice as well when taking a buddy into a new stand I have cheat notes for them for yardages.
My two cents worth

I'm considering adding a range finder to my arsnel as well but have a limited budget. Has anyone come across one that works and is economical as well !?
